With the McIntosh fight over early, hopefully we get to see this.
Bit disappointed with Gethin - you'd think this fight would be well winnable. Scott is fragile, though he did give Thaxton a hard fight.
Good run for Lawton - convincingly beats Hamidi, and beats Gethin. Having a long reach can be useful. Deserves a British title shot, but I'm not sure I'd get too excited about it.

Gethin was good but he was overrated like I stated in previous threads.

I hate the cut rules in this country, i agree that Lawton would of won on points if it went to the ref.
So why not have that cut rule that it goes to the cards when a cut happens. Anyone that looks at Gethins record in years to come on Boxrec will see L KO 9.
And that for me isn't right, it should be TD9
petty i know, but it bugs me

The McDermott cut and decision was horrible - that should've been a NC instead of Elcock TKO2.

It just seems to be a silly rule we have here.
A boxer could of won 11 rounds by a clear margin, and still lose if he's badly cut in the 12th.
It should go to the cards

I agree - I don't know why it isn't implemented. McDermott doesn't deserve "1" in his loss column.

It's been the weekend of the underdog, McCloskey, Rogan, Lawton, started off with a heavy looss for me on Boxpicks with Teron losing.

If he hadn't been matched so carefully all the way (pre Elcock), he might have some more L's.

I e-mailed the BBBC after the Elcock Vs McDermott fight saying that the cuts rule was ludicrous and they got back to me with an equally ludicrous comparison to Tennis

saying that "if a tennis player got injured during a match then the opponent would win"

This has been happening for years like to Damaen Kelly & Herbie Hide.
Not a fair comparison 'cause in tennis the injury isn't caused by the opponent accidentally whacking you with a racket or something to cause the injury.

I can see what you are saying and I agree it wont be on his record as a cut stoppage, but he was losing the bout anyway.

well, he might, I suppose. but that's making out like macca was jumped-up above his station to fight elcock in the first place, which I don't believe is true. i accept that beating Darren rhodes in an eliminator, however impressively, is a pretty nice route to a title tilt.
but the evidence i saw, if only in the 2 rounds we had, made me believe Macca was more on Elcock's level than even I as an ardent fan would have believed beforehand. mostly, before elcock, macca had basically steamrollered his opponents like a bargain-basement Pavlik. he came out much more cautiously than I expected, but better yet for a macca fan, he was doing so much better in the cagier exchanges than i'd have thought. the uppercut he rocked elcock with was a peach and he landed a couple of beautiful clean snappy jabs.
McDermott would have beaten Elcock that night. I've never seen him look so sharp, he clearly (IMO) had the edge in handspeed and timing. he is at the very least at Elcock's level, especially an Elcock at this stage of his career. and he's closer to Elcock's level than jason Mckay, this much I know (and has done at least as much as Mckay to warrant a shot IMO).....

I KNEW that Lawton would win this one.
I for one don't think that Gethin is overated.
I just think he UNDER estimated Lawton.
Martin has had some great wins lately and I'd bet him and his team thought it was a simple matter of just turning up.
A bad attitude to have in this game!!

Thats a bold statement Autobarn.
Just out of interest mate how many times have you seen McDermott fight other than that brief outing against Elcock?

I agree acually.
I think Elcock would have lost to McDermott on that night!

Great stuff from the board. "This is an area we really should address, what should we do? Ah, dig out the old tennis comparison."
You should write them a reply asking them to answer the question in relation to boxing. Cue much head-scratching from the board, then some bright spark says, "When this chap says boxing he means ye olde fisty-cuff fighting that we overlook. Hmm. Maybe we should consider referring to it as 'boxing' in our meetings, call an emergency meeting, 23rd June 2010 should be Ok."
I replied informing them that their response was ludicrous and that it was a matter of common sense that someone shouldn't be rewarded for an accidental clash of heads, but that was the last I heard from them

I think I befuddled them by using logic
