Let's compare Roy Jones Jr.'s foray into the Heavyweight divison to that of Micheal Spinks.
Micheal Spinks barely beat a 36 year old Larry Holmes twice and then beat Gerry Cooney and some unheralded Tangstad guy with an impressive record. He then lost to Mike Tyson in a blowout.
Roy Jones Jr. won a UD over John Ruiz.
How do you guys think each would have done against the other's competition?
I'm sure we can all agree that a 36 year old Larry Holmes, Gerry Cooney, and Steffen Tangstad are all way easier matchups than a prime John Ruiz and Roy Jones Jr. would have steamrolled them. However, there are two questions that are open to debate in my opinion.
Imagine Mike Tyson would have had to go through Roy Jones Jr. to unify the belts in the late 80's, instead of Micheal Spinks. How would your predictions of the match go?
How would Micheal Spinks have fared against John Ruiz?

Very Good Question.
I personally believe that Micheal Spinks would have no problems in beating John Ruiz over a 12 or 15 round decsion.
Also i believe that Roy Jones Jr would not be able to be the current version of Mike Tyson, so i very Much doubt he would beat the Wrecking machine that was Mike Tyson Up to that Micheal Spinks Fight.
Spinks Vs Ruiz: Spinks UD
Tyson(1988) Vs Jones Jr: KO 1
Also, a debatable Point would be Jones Vs Spinks... Now in this website which seems to love Roy Jones i have no Doubt that most would back Roy, But to be controvesial i personally believe that Spinks would beat Jones on a close, possibly SD.

RJJ is an all time legend and he would dispatch of Spinks possibly by a late KO, I am amazed by the lack of objective opinon when it comes to Tyson-Tyson has done nothing to deserve the hero worship that he currently enjoys, the man is now a bum.

He may be a bum now, but he would kill Roy Jones Today, Tomorrow, next week, whenever, even in his present state.
As for Mike Of the 80's anyone who thinks that Roys lasts past a round, is living in a deluded world of fantasy.

The appearance of Mike Tyson in the Heavyweight division in the 80s was like the coming of the Messiah. Nevermind that he turned out a Judas.
But if you didn't live it you don't know what it was like.
On a scene plagued by bums and fat asses it had redentory proportions.
Imagine that Lewis retires (like Holmes did) and somebody like Tyson comes out, dispatches the Klitschkos, Byrd, Sanders, Holyfield, Tua, Kirk Johnson, etc, under six rounds. Then he fights Jones (arguably, the Spinks of today) and kayoes him in 1. Lewis tries a comeback (like Holmes) and he gets flattened in 4. Just imagine that...

While we're at it, how about if Roy Jones Jr. had made a foray into the Heavyweight division at the same time Floyd Patterson did. Roy Jones Jr. vs. Sonny Liston could have been intriguing.

Roy would have to do what Patterson did in order to position himself into a title shot. That being duck, Zora Folley, Eddie Machan and Cleveland Williams.
