It's far too early to judge Tyson Fury after his pro debut at the weekend but it was hard to take him seriously as a prospect when he entered the ring with a flabby physique fighting a guy weighing just 13 1/2 stone!

How an earth did the Board allow Fury to box someone with a five stone weight advantage. Even if he is a debutant that should never have been allowed. As for how Fury looked, well he was loose and delivered a decent left hook to the body for the finish.

Tyson Fury did look half decent in the ABAs, but he has such a hype train around him, it's hard to see him developing in the way that all good professionals should.

Same goes for all the recently turned professionals in fact, Degale etc.

I don't care who you are, it's better to be left to develop under the radar IN THIS DAY AND AGE, where the amateur game and professional game are so different.

We don't know if any of them can fight yet, because as amateurs they never fought, they boxed in a point scoring way.

So that guy did weigh in as a cruiser weight? I just assumed ITV made a mistake.

Bad call by the board really, when you consider they were so picky over Jay Morris being considered unsuitable to contest an 8 rounder with Daws, but ok for a 6 ?!?!

Too soon to judge how good Fury is on the strength of his debut, but he must have something there as an ABA champion.

Hopefully the difference between him and McDermott will be the promoter. Hennessy is already talking very big, so his competition should'nt be as lamentable as McDermott's was with SN.

I thought that too, but as the commentors said the guy was a late, late replacement, however, I fail to see how a UK based heavyweight wasn't available. Bet Tony Booth would have been down the motorway in a shot.

I thought Tyson came across very well in the interview, very level headed and not talking himself up, saying one step at a time. He's not excatly Frauldly saying he'll be British Champ in 5 fights.

Think Mick has to talk him up as his stable is getting older/or reaching their peak and he needs fresh blood in to build.

On a side note - when did Hennesey start promoting. Emerson thought he'd been around since Graham and I thought he's only been around the same sort of time as Fight Academy.

Don't be so sure. How many fighters have been ABA champion and done nothing to speak of in the professionals?

Not to mention he won it at the most open weight in the whole amateur code, super heavy.

He took over Panos Eliades/Panix Promotions didn't he?

That must have been around 2001/2 when Carl Froch turned pro...though I imagine Hennessy was doing small hall/dinner show stuff prior.

I think Sparticus was signed after, he wasn't one of the original ones

I like Big Bad John McDermott. Offensively he puts his shots together well and has decent hand speed. He also has a flabby physique hence my comparisons with Fury. In Tyson's defence, I think he has a better chance of shedding the puppy fat as he matures but I expected him look to more toned on his debut.

Come on the lad was on honeymoon when he got the call, wasn't like he'd been in the gym for weeks and turned up looking flabby. Give the kid a break.

For a guy named Tyson Fury, he actually seemed really likeable. I could definitely see the public getting behind him as a progresses along the way. He's also still only 20 years of age. So long as Tyson does a sit-up or 500, we could have a really marketable domestic heavyweight on our hands. I was surprisingly impressed considering the guy is 20, out of shape and clearly very raw. Go Fury!

Did anyone think his Dad looked like the guy from The Bill? I'll try and get a pic as I haven't a clue what his name is.

Not good enough. He's 20-years-old and a professional sportsman, honeymoon or no honeymoon.
I'd be ashamed if I was in that shape at 40!
