What next for Sports Network?

Following Saturdays show, with its unfortunate pullouts and late notice matchups, I wonder what is planned next from SN. Hopefully a show with some depth- Cook has a title to defend, Macca probably can be fighting again soon for the WBO belt. There are some very good fighters on their books, hopefully we can see them pick up the pace again with a good show.

My guess is a big show, no doubt on PPV, at the end of Feb, with Khan and Cook, possibly Enzo too. Audley can possibly be recycled, either with a rematch with Rogan, a rematch with Sprott... Warren's heavyweight fortunes depend on how Skelton does against Vidoz. A win there revitalises Warren's options at heavyweight - I mean, in terms of what he can stage on his regular Sky PPV shows.

I'd like to see him bring back Prescott, and get him head-lining against a decent contender. Does Warren have him on his books ?

Only a guess, but I would think the next big show will be the debut of the 3 olympians on some kind of mega bill.

It will have to be big to justify the ppv charge.

I suspect Sports Network's next major bill may look like this*:

Nicky Cook vs. Steven Foster jr. (WBO super featherweight title)
Enzo Maccarinelli vs. Jonathon Banks (WBO Cruiserweight title)
Amir Khan vs. Mohammed Elomar (Commonwealth lightweight title)
James Degale vs. TBA
Frankie Gavin vs. TBA
Billy Joe Saunders vs. TBA
Walsh Brother vs. TBA
Walsh Brother vs. TBA
Walsh Brother vs. TBA

*Please note, this prediction is subject to change at any time, and the predictor cannot accept any responsibility for any guesses that may be wildly inaccurate. The predictor is also in no way responsible for any of the confirmed fights falling through.

I think this will be Khans next opponent, genuine lightweight, ko specialist, only lost in world class, or that how the billing wil go

Whats next for the most successful promoter in British boxing history?

Probably lots of money, lots of high profile fights and fighters and big shows

anyone who thinks otherwise is severely deluded

he's said hes taking them on a tour of the country as "a night of british champions" where they are the main headline

im gonna guess he's gonna have them as one billing and have cook, khan and enzo as the PPV option until gavin etc are up to level of fighting for domestic titles then they will go PPV as well

as for heavyweights warren has never been that good with british heavyweights

prescott is with one of the germans promotional companies is he not?

KG - have a look at the cards he promoted in 2008. I think the best one was in March when Haye iced Enzo and you had Mitchell-Johanneson. Other than that, in my opinion, they have been poor.

Do you think Sky will be happy with what they've had recently? Do you think the numbers will have been good?

In short, I'm asking you to justify your response based on recent evidence.

As you often point out, we do have a very skewed view of things on here. But I think even Joe Public must come to their senses soon - and surely the TV execs too.

Cruz's career is utterly remarkable. clealr ythe guy either needs the money or is still in it for the love of the game. He has gone from World Title level bouts to a Nobby Nobbs journeyman style record.

I'm sure Warren will prove me wrong, and I actually hope he does.... but if Degale et al suffer some problems, and if Degale claims he got nearly the deal he wanted the I believe Warren has over priced himself there - Degale isn't as well known as Khan and Harrison, not nearly as well known - and I don't think he is as talented as Khan. But anyway, its those 3 Olympians - otherwise I think we could be seeing a change of tide far sooner than we think.

Going back to Sky was such a backward step and only taken cause he had run out of options, and promotional names - if Setanta continue this legal fight and win, well - the change of tide in British boxing will be very quick. However, unless the amateurs prove a success I can see it happening.

Who would have thought in the early 80's that Duff would be pretty much a minority figure by the early 90's... evolution happens.

Hennessey aint perfect, he pledges far to much faith in "home advantage" without looking at the bigger picture - Could Froch fill an arena in London for example, let alone America exposure. Witter needed the Harries fight to be in the US, Froch needs to fight in the US and pronto. However, the guy is brilliant at negotiating TV deals - I mean he has had long term deals with the BBC (brought them back into boxing) and ITV (brought them back into boxing) - that is pretty brilliant, and he is catching SN fast.

It's alarming how quickly the standard of Warrens shows are deteriorating, more so this year.

The thing is he has so much talent at his disposal. If he put his mind and wallet to it he could put on some cracking bills.

I know he has a bit of 'small hall' tag, but I wonder if the split from Maloney is part of the reason for the standard of Warren shows slipping?

He's also falling short on purse bids.
Tell me the logic of missing out on Macklin v Elcock, a chance to redeem himself with the Birmingham fight fans, after letting them down so badly recently.
Terrible Terry might have a view
Whilst Setanta might have been furious about him jumping ship - that will be sorted out in the Courts - they're probably relieved.

just a bit of a transition phase at the moment i'd say, seems to putting on quite a few shows, keeping the youngsters busy enough....

got a few talented guys fresh with titles for 2009...brook, broadhurst, cleverly, etc...plus jamie cox, , etc looking good to step up...there will be some better stuff coming in 09/10

Depends who they get matched with though.

Did you ever make anyone a lot of money fighting for bogus titles in severe mismatches?

FW - attracts the big names but sadly puts on some horrendous fights and for all the money and all the titles, surely bouts like Macca-Ellis, and also Celverly vs Douglas Otieno vs a crowd the size of assembly time at primary school are a source of embarrassment.

Or is there just no shame in boxing?

What next?

ITV, Setanta, Sky?

Setanta, ITV, Sky?

They just rotate around, the quality drops off, and the cycle starts all over again. You'd have to say the broadcasters have shown some awful judgement (and weren't Sky repairing the damage of mismatches and fake titles by putting Jamie Moore and Carl Froch in traditional title fights of recent)?. Setanta put on big fights but even they gave Warren scope to get out due to some dubious distinction between allegedly and Sports Network.

Oops, Setanta are suing him aren't they, and ITV are building a star of their own and putting on quality Hennessy cards (ok all that needs to happen is Froch lose his title).

On an optimistic note, I hope all the building fights of Khan and the Olympians aren't all going to be PPV because how many ppl are actually going to know about these lads, and who wants to pay £15 to see young lads beating up punching bags? If they fight on undercards of good fights, it would be much more interesting, they'd be part of big events and can see up close what they can aspire to.

How about a Walsh bros PPV? After messy rds and showbating, we get to here "eee, 'e were noo duck egg!"

I heard that fight is in Birmingham, FW is a joke , he overprotects his fighters and when they go for a title [I don't class the WBO as a World title because the organisation is a massive joke] against a top opponent the fighter gets beaten badly, eg Lockett and soon to be Jennings.

FW, in promoting terms, is a pensioner. He's had his kicks, earned his dough etc. You'd think he'd go mad and start taking some risks.

But like most pensioners, he bizarrely has gone from safety first to SAFETY FULL STOP.

It's as if both he and JC saw the Kessler fight as proof they COULD take risks, and thus didnt need to take anymore.

Anyone who thinks Frank W arren is finished or even close to being finished is seriously deluded - he is a born survivor and without doubt the best promoter in Europe!! - at this stage still no one gets close!! Just when you think he is down and going to be counted out he comes back with a surprise or 2 and he will again in 2009 - be completely certain of that.

With all that said cannot stand him or his monkey "Boxing Tw*t From Brentwood Who Crys When He Is Sacked"

I'm sorry but you are taking the piss , FW is the WORST promoter in Europe or probably second worst [that lunatic Turkish promoter might just beat him to been the worst]. He protected JC for years , feeds Amir Khan with bullshit , only has fighters fighting for the WBO titles after they win the title puts them against opponents who are ranked below 50th in the World, He trys to make the WBU a massive deal when its just another terrible wannabe World title, Puts his domestic fighters against African's after they win the Commonwealth title, Always puts the Commonwealth title before the British title probably because that is another organisation that is a bit of a joke and the BBBofC are strict. I could say alot more

You come out with some extremely valid points - but he pays his fighters well, the TV companies and media still in my humble opinion pander to him and in addition name one single promoter who has matched him in this country over a consistent period of time.

Trust me I AM CERTAINLY NOT a F rank Warren fan - but lets keep to the facts.

There are certainly promoters out there who are capable of matching and in fact bettering W arren but they have not done so yet!!!
