Will the demise of De La Hoya boost the UFC ?

The UFC has been doing large PPV sales and is growing and growing.
De La Hoya is seen by many as the last marquee name that is 'bankable box office'
I can't see whom else will fill the void once he has hung them up Stateside...

It's a tough ask for someone to come and replace Oscar.
Outstanding amateur record and Olympic career.
Fought many world champions as a pro.
To be fair with the UFC fighters don't seem to have long careers and title reigns, so it would be tough for them to headline PPV after PPV.
Of the UFC champs I would probably say that Lesnar has the highest profile, but hes a rookie to the sport really.

The Phillipino's dont pay for PPV
Otherwise they would have hit 5 million instead of 1.25m

I couldn't see Pacman crossing into the mainstream.
I don't think I have ever heard him talk

People buy PPV to see UFC the brand not fighters, boxing doesn't have that because of years of shit undercards.
I think the big promters need to help the sport out with title fights on under cards and so forth.

We used to have stacked PPV cards in the UK and then over to the US. I don't know where it all went wrong.
To be fair some of the UFC undercards are overrated. Typically a 3 hour UFC PPV will boil down into just 20-30 mins of action.

The better the competition the better the shows promters put on. At the moment there are just a couple of big promoters and they seem to have a deal not to put on shows that are too good. I like Hennessy because even on a nothing show of his I went to see (Thaxton vs Romanov) there was one really close fight on the undercard as well which was deffinatly worth the money I paid. I wouldn't pay PPV for most of Warrn's shows let alone get a ticket to london.

WHAT THE FECK HAS THE DEMISE OF OSCAR DELA HOYA GOT TO DO WITH THE FECKING UFC?????????????
Honestly dude, if you actually understood who Oscar's fanbase was you wouldnt be asking this, the majority wouldnt have even heard of the ufc let alone be buying their crappy ppv's
Also where exactly are these large ufc ppv's? 675,000 was their highest in 2007 and their so called 'Biggest Fight Ever' absolutely flopped big time and cud only do 875,000 in 2008, if anything ufc ppv's have pretty much hit their ceiling at between 300,000 and 600,000 ppv buys
As for future Boxing PPV'S doing over million, here is one guaranteed to do it in 2009
Manny Pacquio vs Floyd Mayweather
these would do between 500,000 and 1 million in 2009 if marketed right
Pacquio vs Hatton
Mayweather vs Cotto
Margarito vs Cotto 2
Pacquio vs Marquez 3
Hatton vs Mayweather 2
Margarito vs Paul Williams 2
Kelly Pavlik vs Athur Abraham(more likely to be doing around 350/400,000)

Well i think they all could happen depending on circumstances but i think the one with the least chance is probably
Mayweather vs Cotto

Hispanics buy PPVs in the States in large numbers - their sector of the market is imp for both boxing and UFC.
Boxing has a well established PPV revenue stream from the hispanic market.
UFC is desperate to get a slice of that action, hence Cain Velasquez (who can fight) getting the big build up.
Roger Huerta (featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated) is another they have high hopes for, although he looked a little limited in his last match (a loss).
Dana White is no slouch - he has another decent Hispanic kid on his latest season of TUF and is giving 'fainting' phillipe nova (Filipino descent out of NY) huge praise. The Filipino market is one I am sure UFC would like to break into - PacMan is national hero over there and as a warior nation with its own martial art systems (kali etc) I am sure he can see an new market opening up...

No offense dude but all that you've just said is pretty much bollocks and dana white is the bullshitter of all bullshiters! Not many Hispanics buy ufc now and probably never will, its just not in their culture no matter how much the ufc try's for it or tell's you it's gonna happen.
No one has ever heard of Micheal bisping in England despite all the publicity and marketing he's got here, he's a totally non entity which just proves that you can't market people to have mass appeal no matter how much hype and marketing you throw at them!

I just cant support a sport that allows another mans gonads touch another mans face, its just too close to homo sexual activity for me.

No, thats just not the case not by a long shot
In the space of 2 months last year UFC had 1 PPV that got 220,000 buys and another that did 1,000,050
People buy UFC for the main event

Ive been to the Philippine's a number of times, its poor, dirt poor, there isnt any "market" of such to break into at all.

Not so much DeLa Hoya's demise more the general lack of interest in boxing as a sport & the lack of megastars coming through for the casual fans to get behind.
However the recent De La Hoya fight drew more PPV buys than any UFC PPV ever so there is still some life in boxing.
Even Legend Couture vs. Pro Wrestling Star Lesnar didn't beat the buyrates for DLH. People are interested still in the big money fights, promoters need to work harder to put together the big stars, unify the belts & in doing so create the huge stars needed to drive the sport forwards

Pacquaio is going to be a big PPV star in the next couple of years - even the Hispanics like him.

If anything its the other way round as ufc is in far bigger trouble with its 3 biggest star's(Couture, Liddell and Ortiz) all being very long in the tooth and pretty much all finished and without them, no more big ppv's eaither!
Our 2 Biggest star's Mayweather and Pacman are 31 and 29 and will have a shot at 1 million plus PPV’S especially if they are matched together. Guys like Cotto 27, Margarito 30, Pavlik 26 and maybe Williams 26 will all post sold 500,000 ppv’s in the future if matched either together or with other big names
The leftfield choice of a guy who could be a future big PPV star is CHRIS ARREOLA, of course he has to beat the Klitchko brothers and Valuev first which aint gonna be easy but he already has Mainstream expsure by being on network tv and HBO plus he is American, a Heavyweight, Hispanic, good looking, great personality and is very exciting to watch so he has massive potential

Brock Lesner just drew over a million buys..........
Actually it was 875,000 and no it wasnt Brock Lesnar that drew that figure, i think you'll find it had as much to do with the 47yr old he was fighting

nope it has been revised to just over 1,000,000 as of monday
I can only assume you are joking if you think Coture was the draw

Post link please as i'd be interested in the source, even if it did do a million its still a poor figure considering the fight was billed as the 'Biggest ufc fight ever'
I can only assume your joking if you dont think coture wasn't part of the draw

lets see how much Brocks next fight without couture, Liddell or Ortiz does!
