i think he was a disgraced insurance magnate called Levine

Ed Levine is the man behind the IBO. Don't know if that's who you're thinking of.
Can't remember him having anything to do with Big Len (other than giving him the belt).

he tried his hand at the boxing world and the only person he was associated with was lennox, this would have been early 80's.
