A group will have 2 group winners & 2 group runners up from the last round...
Each boxer fights each other once....

I realise that this thread has been a long time before progressing, but the turth is, I forgot that I put this thread up and only remembered as I seen it...

But here are the results anyway: (the top two boxers from each group go through)

GROUP A:
Joe Louis wins group
Jack Dempsey qaulifies as second place
Joe Frazier finishes just ever-so-slightly behind Dempsey
Floyd Patterson brings up the rear

GROUP B:
George Foreman destroys everybody and tops the group
Jack Johnson finishes in a strong second place
Lennox Lewis ends up in 3rd place
Riddick Bowe just has not got enough

GROUP C:
Muhammad Ali lords it all over in Group C.
Mike Tyson squezzes into second after a tight battle with Holyfield
Evander Holyfield leaves the tournament with his head held high
Gene Tunney seems out of his depth

GROUP D:
Larry Holmes is crowned champion of Group D.
Sonny Liston just nudged Marciano out of the qualifying
Rocky Marciano goes home having fought a good tournament
Vitali Klitchsko got as far as he could, no disrespect to him.

THE AFTERMATH of ROUND 2:

GROUP A:
Joe Louis wins group A convincingly. Louis looked sharp in the ring and brought his record in this tournament to 6-0-0... When interviwed the day before the Quarter Final draw, he is asked if he thought he could win the tournment:
"It will get harder... But absolutely".

Jack Dempsey qaualifies second place in his group... Dempsey looked even toruble at his fight with Louis, but Dempsey laughs:
"I'm a survivor. I will learn from the experience and I will be to meet him later when our times comes around".

Joe Frazier leaves the tournament with an impressive showing, though he's still a little disgruntled at the referree stopping his fight against Dempsey. He declares that he was never really hurt, and that his cut above his eye was not that bad... Though he leaves the tournament with 4 wins by KO and 2 defeats to his name.

Floyd Patterson brings up the rear of the group. And after three consecutive losses, and, in particualr, a crushing knockout loss to Frazier... Patterson leaves without complaint.


GROUP B:
George Foreman destroys everybody and tops the group! He finishes his trio of fights in much the same vain as he had the first round... Foreman still brags that he will prove the bookmakers wrong.

Jack Johnson finishing as the runner-up admits that he never fought anyone like Foreman before, but declares that he's looking forward to the next round, and insists: "Suckah, I'm ready for anybody".

Lennox Lewis insists that his points loss to Johnson, should be investiagted and feels that despite being on the back foot, he done enough to qualify for the Quater Finals.

Riddick Bowe declares that he still suffering from a virus, and pins this as the reason he never got back into his rhythmn.


GROUP C:
Muhammad Ali lords it all over in Group C... And In the press conference, rhymes about Holyfield and Tunney runnin' but Ali came boomin'... After a much enteraining recital, Ali stands up and declares: "I AM THE GREATEST"!

Mike Tyson squezzes into second after a tight battle with Holyfield... But Mike's punhcing power was enough to last against the incredibly tough Holyfield... Tyson admits his relief that he cannot encounter Muhammad Ali or Jack Johnson again in the next round.

Evander Holyfield leaves the tournament with his head held high... Holyfield gave a great account of himself, despite losing 3 fights in the tournament.

Gene Tunney announces that he will be stepping down to Light Heavyweight... And refuses to get drawn into speculation on who would win the tournament.


GROUP D:
Larry Holmes is crowned champion of Group D... And brings his record to a perfect 6-0-0 in the tournament... Holmes is touted as one of the favourites for the tournament... And he laughs when the reporters tell him that the odds have shortened on him.

Sonny Liston just nudged Marciano out of the qaulifying. Liston's reach advantage may well have tipped the scales in his favour in that battle... But Liston insists that he's good enough to beat anyone.

Rocky Marciano goes home having fought a good tournament. Rocky says that he will watch the tournament on television... And unveils that he will be placing a heavy bet on Joe Louis to win the tournament.

Vitali Klitchsko admits that he was outclassed... He insists that it was an honour to fight in the tournament, and to go out alongisde the likes of Joe Frazier, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Rocky Marciano.
