Are there ANY British boxers in this category? Box rec don't list any. It would be intreresting to know if any titles have been contested at these weights in the UK. There is a chap with the remarkable name of Pornsawan kratingdaenggym who came up on a google search for uk fights at minimumweight (not sure why, he is from Thailand, fought for two world titles) but other than that nothing.

Me too- need to shift maybe a couple of Pounds and I'll be minimumweight!

Not really, I'm not a boxer, I'm just chubby!

There are British fighters who could do it, Paul Weir in fairness took full advantage, however opportunties tend to come at higher weights so our fighters move up, Certainly Ian Napa could have done that a few years ago

Does Delroy Spencer not still hold the British Minimum Weight belt as no one else can make the weight to fight him ?

I'm nearly sure Del mentioned it the last time he was over in Dublin.

I'm sure there's not such thing as the British Minimum weight title or light fly for that matter.

Micky Cantwell challenged for the WBO straw weigt title, and the light fly, i think.

i couldnt even tell you who the world champ is at strawweight, unless it's Calderon.

The British Flyweight title has only been fought for once in 8 years!!!

so i think that shows how many small guys we have had around lately

Edwards and Bloy are fighting for it on the 23rd of January

We might see a few more fly's turning pro as well, not sure what weight Mo Nasir wil be fighting at

Jose Suleiman (WBC head dictator) said that the reason the minimumweight and light flyweight titles
were set up in the first place was for the Asian boxing market which was huge in the 1970s and 80s
but didn't have the fighters big enough to fight in the higher weight divisions.

So these new weight divisions were set up to bring more world title boxing to Asia - makes sense
if you think about it. Though the idea is redundant for any European market.

January 2009s Ring Magazine mentions a British flyweight world Champ- Benny Lynch, from Glasgow. He fought over 100 fights in all.
