A great uncle of mine saw the Burns/Johnson fight from ringside. He said Johnson moved like a big cat.

He was a smooth stalking panther on the outside and an sabre toothed tiger on the inside.

Have a listen tomorrow night, we have some audio from The Unforgivable Blackness documentary.
Its amazing that an event in Sydney in 1908 had such ramifications for the sporting world.

You're right. Ignore the above re the Don King Wig. Unleash can cover Geelong.

In the new studio we now have 2 phone lines so verbal matchups can also be arranged.

No swearing of course.

  I would mate but after downing a few pints this arvo i would be a rambling idiot. Maybe a good thing i could have a winge about mismatches and how we should have 12 rounds again for the Aus title.

Its next Monday night so hopefully you will be sober by then. :TU:

P.S. You have a staunch supporter on the 12 round issue. Of over 100 sports played seriously in this country boxing is the only one that has a compromised standard compared to the international.

I suggested something to the ANBF in November called "The Champions option". On ANBF approved bouts (i.e. not obvious mistmatches) The champ has the right to offer the challenger a 12 round title fight. That way when overseas matchmakers are checking out our boys they don't see a slew of 10 rounders and think we are still in the warm kiddies pool.

Good idea.
At least then the Aus champ has the option of defending over the championship distance. I also think if you cant go 12 you arnt worthy of holding the National Title.
Our National Title should be held in higher regard.

Go nuts. I understand why Brad did it and it was with Boxers safety in mind.

But when the Kiwis, South Africans and the English all box their national champs over 12 heats then it is unaustralian to have a lower standard.

Thanks Ben. Jack Johnson is an extraordinary rich source of material. I can't believe what he went through to get that fight.

We are going to have a small ceremony at 11am on Boxing day on the site of the original fight in Rushcutters Bay. A moment that should be marked in time with a beer and a cheese platter.
