For the first while, thats exactly the route he will take however I dont think it will last long. The public have began to see through Khan and with promoters like Hayemaker putting their fighters in competitive fights, I think people will tire very quickly of De Gale et al beating up on punchbags to headline shows.

Frank has to realise that with the competition from Hennesy on ITV and some great boxing on Setanta, he cant put on mismatches with poor undercards and expect people to pay anymore.

I don't think DeGale will do it!

He seems really cocky, but I don't think he has the substance behind the words.

i think he's a good talent.

good skills.

looks a tough sort.

can tough it out as we saw in the olympic final.

respectable puncher.

harder to tell on the power in the amateurs cos of the shorter distances.

i fancy his power to come out in the pro's.

definitely one to watch.

DeGale needs alot of work on his punching to turn it from amateur to pro.
And as with every boxer at some point it comes down to how well he takes a punch, i've not seen anything from the amatuers to say he can't take a good punch, but the pros are a different game.

I fancy Sutherland to go further than De Gale in there respective careers .

How much of a draw will he be? His gold was a great achievement, but he hasn't come back as "superstar" or developed as a "household name" since. Sure, he won gold- and won it well, but there hasn't really been much publicity about him since in the mainstream press or TV- unlike (for example) Rebecca Adlington who seems never to be out of the glossy magazines, press supliments , TV awards etc since she came back from China.

Other than boxing fans, I'd be surprised if 1 in 20 people could even name him or identify who he was from a picture.

At the moment Sutherland has a much more pro style than DeGale, I'd say he will settle in the pros quicker, but DeGale may last the longer.

Will set up a decent rivalry if both stay unbeaten for a couple of years.

Especially if both go unbeaten for say 15 fights then a good domestic fight should be on the cards .

I can see Sutherlands career going along a very different path to DeGales. It all depends on how they progress, of course, but I can see Sutherland being involved in decent, challenging match ups, building up a solid, impressive (but not necessarily unbeaten) record and possibly success at European level.

DeGale on the other hand I think will follow a rather different route, with fewer competative match ups and more "intercontinetal" or for that matter commonwealth style "titles."

The latest is that it's going to be a London trainer and it's down to two men, so one of you may be right.

I think Degale should be trained at Brenden Ingle's, his style would suit the way Ingle's fighters box. However with him wanting to be trained on London, i cant really see a what trainer he will go with

I'd have him go with Niky Cooks dad, can't remember his name at the moment. He's London based isn't he?

James Degale has done himself and his country proud winning a Gold Medal and I think as boxing fans we should give him a bit of support.

Yes, Ams is different than the pros, Yes he mastered the art of winning in the Ams, but this doesn't mean he won't be able to make it in the pro ranks. There are many factors which will determine that, and time will tell, but....

It's tough to call how amateurs will fare in the pro ranks. Often glaring faults can be masked over in the amateur game (See Audley Harrison).

It's exciting to have these guys to look forward to though, British boxing is still very interesting....

I don't buy into this ethos that "He is cocky, therefore I don't like him". Boxers get paid more if they are well known and being cocky (rather than a shrinking violet) gets people talking about you.

I hope James does very well in the pro ranks, but we all know that the Gold Medal means very little in terms of results as a pro. The 2 codes are very different and are getting further apart imo, a fighters power, chin and stamina (amongst other attributes) are far more important as a pro than they are as Amateur. Time Will Tell whether James has the necessary attributes and dedication to make it to the top in the pro ranks.
