as mentioned i have just returned from hols and i saw a clip on sky news about haye fighting vitali klitscko in june???? and without a warm up fight???
is this correct???
personally if i was haye id demand another warm up fight as if he goes into the fight with just the barret rounds then i think haye gets knocked out....barret to vitali is too big a jump up in class.
now to vitali , he has mentioned he has a mandatory fight vs gomez??? , now surely he will be taking the pi.ss if he doesnt fight gomez as the rules were bent to let vitali fight peter after all that time out.
what should happen is that both should fight in march against different opponents....vitali vs gomez and haye vs another contender...this would then give haye a better chance of winning as he will have more rounds at heavyweight and vitali is another fight older.
thoughts???

Adam Booth claims Dodders is boxing for a title he never lost in the ring.
He must mean the Central Area title

I would prefer for Haye to have a warm-up against a guy with a build similar to Klitschko's, thus allowing Vitali to get his mandatory out of the way. It would push their fight back a few months but on the whole, it would benefit everyone concerned.

Former champ set to face vs Klitschko-Gomez winner

According to an exclusive memo obtained by Fightnews.com, former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev will get a chance to regain his title against the winner of a proposed fight between current champion Vitali Klitschko and mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Gomez. According to the memo, sent by WBC president Jose Sulaiman last Monday, Klitschko is to fight Gomez by April 30, 2009 with a potential extension allowed to no later than June 30. With Gomez getting his title shot it will clear the way for Maskaev (35-6, 26 KO's) to become the mandatory challenger. The winner of the Klitschko-Gomez fight then has 120 days to defend his title against Maskaev "with a possible extension of 60 additional days under extenuating circumstances." A period of 30 days, according to the memo, will be allowed after the Klitschko-Gomez fight to negotiate a fight against Maskaev, which, if not completed accordingly, will then go thru the traditional purse offer procedure.
Maskaev and his team, meanwhile, had been in litigation against the sanctioning organization for a variety of issues that occurred during Maskaev's reign as champ from August 2006 to March of this year. These included the purse split for Maskaev's defense against Samuel Peter, the labeling of Peter as interim champion when Maskaev postponed their original fight, as well as other issues. The result of that litigation, which had gone to the court of arbitration, is the insertion of Maskaev as mandatory challenger against Klitschko, a fighter Maskaev beat as an amateur. How Maskaev's shot against Klitschko will effect a proposed Klitschko-David Haye fight, however, remains to be seen. Maskaev, meanwhile, is free to fight before the Klitschko-Gomez fight occurs with the caveat being that, should he lose, he would forfeit his mandatory challenger status
Which is another variable, but who knows? I can see David ending up against Wladdy at this rate, but it's all a swirling vortex of rumour, hearsay, half-truths, hyperbole & wossname. I think it's gonna be well into 2009 until the murk clears.

I can't see a problem even if Maskeav is to be made mandatory. I can almost guarantee that Haye and Vitali will fight at some point next year, most likely on June 1st. Both men want it, and they'll be a lot more money in Haye/Vitali than Maskeav. Also, I can't see the WBC giving Vitali two mandatories that he has to fight back-to-back, after Peter's mandatory as well. If Vitali fights Haye before he fights Gomez then he'll fight him four or five months afterwards, assuming he wins. Then if Maskeav is still mandatory then it'll be his turn, but in my opinion, Maskeav/Vitali will never ever happen. And it certainly won't affect Haye's fight against the Ukrainian.

Yeah, I wondered what that comment meant.
I'm going off boxrec's records, I think it was the case that Dodson didn't lose a fight as British Champion, although he did unsuccessfully challenge for the belt against Froch
On another note, Derry Matthews probably needs a confidence booster at theis stage, but they were talking about him going for a title. That will be a hard one for them to match.
More generally, this show sounds decent, but it is very ambitious of them to book a venue of this size. For sure, there are some talented local boxers on the bill, and the main event looks good (at least to fans,) but then there is always the worry of potential pull outs etc. Add that Hayemaker were doing a 2 for 1 offer last time (AFTER some people had bought tickets) might mean that this venue is rather too large for the occassion. I'll probably go, but I'm not buying my ticket in advance!

I rang the arena to ask about tickets, they said check the website, which is where I got the number to ring the arena....
Just thinking, too- aren't David Haye and Anthony Small friends? Maybe they had a fall out.

Haye's a maverick so it wouldn't surprise me to see him go straight in with Vitali. Haye loves to grab an opportunity. The risk factor of him taking another bout and coming unstuck must be a concern too.
That said, I agree with boxerbob and that David could do with another fight first, ideally a big, upright eastern european. I know Bonin got blasted into oblivion but there's tougher nuts to crack than him.
