TRUSCOTT/SIMPSON Jan 16th?

Boxrec have this down as happening Live on Sky, presumably for Trussies Commonwealth strap.

Good fight this one, I like Truscott but I think this is a tough fight for him. Simpson is very strong and a decent enough boxer and can see him giving Paul a lot of trouble.

I would lean towards Simpson at this stage but only fractionally.

Anyone know if its definately on and any views?

Eh Noelsy? :o :TU:

Simpson's strength and experience could give the smoother boxing Truscott all sorts of trouble. This is an acid test to see how much more Truscott has matured into his champions role, as he showed great resilience beating the African for the commonwealth.

Simpsons been through the Mill at championship Level with Andy Morris Dazzo Williams & Derry Mathews he was robbed blind in the Williams fight also the Mattews Fight he floored him won the 1st six rounds also matthews had a piont takin off how could lose it :shame: Also he only Lost to Appleby because of a slip on the advertising on the Canvas so he must be 1 of the most hard done by boxers in the game  hes a top featherweight at british level :TU:

It'll be nice, as we'll have a semi-decent comparison between Appleby and Truscott.

Hard fight for Truscott - very hard fight - if he comes through this one - he can start earning some dough out of the sport!!!

Are people suggesting that Simpson could be on the slide at 25?

Alright mate,by the way,Paul{seriously}is not in the game to make a lot of "dough" since being a child he has watched endless videos of the sport,he used to beg me to take him to his older Brothers fights,he is a true fan of the fight game,i tried my best to stop him turning over{i'm a fan of amateur boxing} but he would'nt listen,he honestly wants to test himself against the best,he never shouts anyone out,he just believes,if you have a Title, you should defend it against the best,he trains{and has been training}very hard for this fight,he's pretty confident even though he really rates John Simpson, anyway mate...heres hoping.

Like I said before, it will be interesting to see how Truscott does against the domestic barometer in Simpson. It will be a different fight to Appleby/Simpson because Truscott's probably the better boxer - if he could dig then he would be the prospect of 2009 for me. Although, if he does get past Simpson, most likely on points, then a fight with Mathews or even looks slightly interesting. He does seem to have the skills to go far, but his chin, power and temperament in the ring are all still questionable - he does like to get into a brawl and with his attributes, that's not fighting to his strengths. The boy does have a lot of talent though, and his bird is fit.

I do know exactly what you mean, but to be honest there is nothing wrong with making a bit of money out of boxing too, as with success can come decent paydays - I think that comment was intended as a compliment. This is an excllent match up- exactly how it should be at this level, and feather, and Super Feather, are very competative divisions at the moment, so I'm sure there will be some excellent match ups to look forward to in the future. If Truscott wins this there is the VERY interesting prospect of a match up with the winner of Lindsay and Appleby, which would be a big draw, a big main event and indeed- a big payday. :TU:

Mowgli - thank you for the reply - whilst I believe you and many will think your answer is extremely refreshing - I have also seen many many lads in boxing struggle like f*ck in the sport all down to money - mainly because they either do not have a good sponsor or a second job to put food on the table and some spare to pay the bills.

In addition - knowing in the back of your mind that you have the dosh in the bank to keep afloat also gives you a chance to be able to relax and train properly - in otherwords not be in a rush to make the gym on time - not upsetting the boss because you have to get away early because you are fighting that night etc etc etc

Those that can train full time are the ones that have enough to pay the bills or have a decent sponsor - those full time boxers are also the ones who are most likely to make it far in the sport as well - time and time again when I was staying in the Lennox Lewis College in London - I was rooming with Lee Meager - he worked on the roads - he had to get up at some unearthly hour to go to put a full days work in and then be in a rush to be one of the last in the gym at night to put a stint of training in!!!

I suppose I could get all what I have said above out of the way by simply saying - good luck to any lad who can make some money out of the sport - there is nothing wrong with it - whilst I admire your stance and dont take this the wrong way - whether you and others like it or not - boxing is a business - yes its there for someone to be the best and fight the best - but you shouldn't be putting in a shift just for the benefit of others.

Respect to you Mowgli and good luck with your lad - I live just down the road for him (Northallerton) and I am sorry mate - you all support a sh*t football team!!

Up the Toon!!!

Paul Truscott defends his Commonwealth featherweight title against former British champion John Simpson in Middlesbrough on January 16.
Home boy Truscott, just a baby at 22 and 12-0 (1), showed real potential in winning the title with a close but deserved decision over Ghanaian hard man Osumanu Akaba in Middlesbrough earlier this year, but Simpson is an established, canny, durable fighter who never gives anyone an easy night and represents even more of a hurdle. The Greenock man won the British featherweight title with a five-round cuts stoppage of Wythenshawe's Andy Morris in 2006 in London and proved his right to the belt with a seven-round mauling of the same man last year. He dropped it on a close decision to talented fellow Scot Paul Appleby in his last fight in June but, still only 25, will view this as a quick route back. Only a controversial fifth-round knockdown cost him the verdict against Appleby and a magnificent Lonsdale Belt outright.
Simpson obviously brings a real edge in experience to this one but the rangy Truscott sets a hot pace and looks every bit as stylish as his rival, although Simpson looks to carry the harder dig. Both man have plenty of grit.
Ultimately, it might boil down to home advantage.

Simpson is an excellent fighter, imo.

This fight is too soon for Truscott, but good to see these guys fighting 'live' fighters.

good post again mate and i heartily agree. :TU:

The key for Truss is definitely to box and not get involved, IMO. I would like to see him give Simpsomn plenty of lateral movment as I'm not sure how well simpson copes with it

i want Truss to win as i saw him quite early in his career and had a little 'mm one to watch' moment, plus spoke to him briefly and he seemed a nice lad, plus his attitude seems great and I like his skills. wish him all the best for me mowgli he's a credit to you mate 8)

I would appreciate any/all opinions on this match up. Thx! I don't know much about these guys but it appears, on paper anyway, that Truscott could pull a minor upset despite having only 1 ko in all his wins.

Note:didn't see the thread...thx mods!

No questions this a tough fight for Truscott. The experience of Simpson will present Paul with a new challenge and I don't think Simpson is in anyway burnt out at British title level. Still plenty in the tank.

Workrate could be the key for Truscott unless he can taking his boxing skills to the next level and win that way.

Im going for Trusscott by decision in a good fight..

Trussy has all the skills to prevail and also the height and reach too..
Simpson is teak tough and can bang BUT lacks a little bit in all round boxing skills,

I like Truscott on points too. Close fight though - Simpson can whack harder than his record suggests. I'd like to see Akaash Bhatia in the mix soon. I heard he gave Truscott a good fight in the amateurs - but that was from Akaash's cousin so he would say that!

I think Truscott could win this on a close points decision, much like the appleby simpson fight. If he does win he should get a crack at the winner of Appleby-Lindsay to unify the British and commonwealth straps.
