Stated he would announce what he is up to in Jan 09 :
So does he retire ?- or who do you think will tempt him back into the ring and where?

what good fights are out there for him? chad dawson is a maybe at best, then i can't really see who else, froch might be an entertaining fight but JC probz UD's him. no point him fighting pavlik now after hopkins destroyed him, hopkins rematch would be a bore and end up the same way except probz a UD this time. cant see much else for him so he might as well just retire and pretend he was more of a legend then he in reality is.

He hasn't earned the right to do that the way Lennox had.
I hope he is not given credit for "getting out at the right time" etc... because he will be leaving boxing at a time when he really had a chance to leave a mark on the sport.
He has a chance to become an all time great, and he will quite possibly turn down that opportunity because he doesn't want to risk losing. Which to me would be hugely uninspiring and a big let down.

It's just a matter of who has earned it.
I say Joe Calzaghe can sit on his behind for 3 months,or better stay in light training.
Either way the Pound For Pound Number 1 makes the call.
No Dawson nonsense dictates the Welshman,no offence but who the hell does this dude think he is.

I hope to god I'm just being cynical, but I kind of believe Jones in this interview from boxingtalk... wouldn't surprise me at all if JC did this;
GL: Is there any update as it relates to your next move? "No, ain't nothing, Just kicking it here and everything is everything you know, I'm just laying low until we see what's coming next."
GL: Have you or John Wirt reached out to Calzaghe's people to see if they are still interested in the rematch? "Most definitely they're interested and he told me that when he got back from the Holiday he would let me know what he's going to do. I'm very interested in the rematch and he is too, so we'll see what happens. Before we last spoke he also told me that if he was going to fight again he was going to fight me, so I'm looking forward to that and if that's what he does I'll be ready."
If this fight actually happens, I hope the press/media rips Calzaghe to peices for it...

theres no way jc could make middleweight he was struggling to make s,middle and cruiser would be out the question too i think b-hop would beat calzaghe in a rematch,calzaghe would beat tarver dawson,bute,inkin i think he would struggle against the cobra though

As ever, Joe probably UD's everyone, so why fight? That's the attitude and that's why there's been so few good fights.

Dawson is the toughest test out there for him, but Taylor would be the logical choice for his next opponant if he were to cary on. That's who HBO would put up the big bucks for him to fight. Personally I hope he fights Dawson or retires. He's not a fighter i'm going to miss.

How on earth would beating Zsolt Erdei, Carl Froch or Denis Inkin turn him into an all time great?
Listen, there will always be a top 5 of fighters in any division one can reel off and say "why doesnt so and so fight them" but there comes a time when a fighter has realistically done it all. Fighting these jokers on your list does fornicate all for Calzaghe and boxing as a whole

The only fight thats generates enough money is Hopkins II. I seriously doubt if Calzaghe wants to spend any more time with Bernard however. And the first fight was fornicating boring.

Calzaghe seems to throw a fit, and go off on a string of obscenities, every time Hopkins is mentioned to him. That tells me Hopkins has got in his head. I don't think he'd go through that again, even in Wales, for lots of money. He'd do it if he knew the fight would be easy, but he's not a sporting fella, this Joe.

Chad Dawson in his smaller career has already taken more risks than Calzaghe has in his entire career.
After the Calzaghe-RJJ PPV Flop, Calzaghe knows he needs a big fighter, since he himself can't draw much attention.
He needs to have a rematch with Hopkins, go with Dawson, if not, just Retire

again, do you, or does anyone else really want to see Hopkins and Calzaghe "fight" again?
