It may be jingoistic and out-dated, but I really do think an England team should be captained by an Englishman.

An obvious candidate doesn't present himself however.

I've never like KP, incredible batsman, but a me first, team second player.

He is English, if he wasn't how on earth would he be playing for England!

He isn't English. He is entitled to play for England by virtue of residency over the past 5 or six years and because he became frustrated by the quota system in his native South Africa. He was born in South Africa, has a South African accent and lived there for the first 20 years of his life.

Personally, English cricket lurched downhill when they overlooked in the incumbent Strauss to plump for the sponsers preference Flintoff.

Strauss had performed well in Vaughan's stead, won some cricket matches but was sidestepped to put Flintoff in charge, akin to putting Gazza in charge of social events.

Its been downhill since. Strauss is the only candidate. Bell isn't secure enough in the team.

Just a pity Vaughan didn't score some runs last summer for Yorkshire. Not because he would then be a candidate, it was just a pity he didn't score any runs for Yorkshire.

England are good when Yorkshire are good.

From purely cricketing terms I'm gutted KP's resigned as captain as I reckon he was the man for the job, he's an inspirational cricketer and person IMO.

Conflicting reports now, Peterson "threatened" to quit this morning.

Nobody involved has come out of this smelling of roses, have they? The ECB now have egg on their faces and are left with no coach and no captain. England will need a new captain (can't see Pietersen being reinstated any time soon) as the ECB will not want a repeat of this "dummy-spitting" episode and Moores cannot be reinstated as that will only cause more friction in the camp. Moores was criticised for focusing too much of the team's training on fitness and may not have the support of the whole squad.

I was disappointed that Strauss was overlooked when Vaughan resigned and hope he gets the job as he has the right experience and a cooler head than KP. IIRC, Pietersen qualifies to play through having an English mother.

KP obviously does not have Vaughan's expereince in captaining a cricket team at international level. The ECB should have known this and either granted him his wish to have Vaughan on the tour to WI (bearing in mind Bell's place in the team is far from safe) or appointed a coach with more international experience while they had the opportunity.

KP is a pratt, good player but not captain material. Who will coach England thats just as important?

We dont cover ourselves in glory do we as a nation on such matters.

First the rugby (publicly humiliating and sacking a man who got a bunch of no hopers to the world cup final and 2nd in the six nations, for a figure head with no coaching experience) thats reaping what the rfu sowed now isnt it. (week after week of record defeats at home).

The rows re the amateur boxing set up and treatment of Teddy Edwards and his team at the olympics was pretty fuckign low as well.

And now this debacle....dont think the establishment will ever learn to be frank and its something that holds back English sport in general.
