Need a hotel in New York for a couple of nights in April. Always find this board is just about the best and most reliable place to get info like this, so, anyone got any tips on hotels / web sites / prices in the big apple?

Was very expensive a few months ago, but prices have come down. Still not cheap though.

I always look at Expedia and then double check the hotel's website after to see if it is any cheaper.

Even a so so hotel in NYC can be £100+ a night

I was travelling with 2 other people, and found it very hard to get a room with three beds- however we did find the Hotel Walcott which was fine. $220 for three beds is about £50 per person, not too bad. There is also a little area where the third bed is, actually another room really, with it's own TV .

So yeah, if you are in a group of 3 (or 5 or 6) then it is much more economical to do it this way, rather than having to have to take a twin and a single room or similar.

If you are on your own, single rooms in New York are (frustratingly) not much cheaper than a double. Basically the logic is that you pay for the room, not per person.

Lastminute.com does secret hotels which are normally tip top like Times Square Shearton for a fraction of the cost.

Thats it, but no gamble as you can take the description and look through the hotels on their site and you'll find it or google the description and it normally comes up trumphs!

There's a website you can use where you stipulate the distrcit and numbers of stars and how much you wanna pay and it allocates you a room. It's called Hotwire. My mate paid the same as me at the same time, but got a 4 star near central park.

Yeah- I check it out- it tells you the percentage discount, so with that you can pretty much work out which hotel they are refering too. I'm looking for one in Brum, and there is a special offer £34, which is 13% off- so its the hotel currently doing rooms for £39 on the main site.

Embassy suites was quite nice in the financial district

The Affinia, which is right across the road from the Garden, sent me something this week about a 9-day sale with "lowest ever prices". OK hotel, often used as a fight hotel when Garden fights are on. Big rooms, very small bathrooms, some a bit tired, but great location - there's a really good Mexican just down the road too.

Shop around at the moment, there will be lots of offers at good hotels as New York hotels thrive on business traffic, but lots of companies are cutting down on their travel, so there are lots of empty rooms.

Wales, I can make a few suggestions if you tell me what order of preference you have for price, location & hotel standard

New York has outpriced itself for years.
Great town don't get me wrong.

I'm thinking of doing the Margarito v Cotto 2 fight there.

But unless they bring down their prices and currency it won't happen.
Let alone a stellar undercard and seat price.

No way I will do New York again unless they make it more affordable.

It's not worth it really.

400 bills a night to stay in Manhattan
3 of those and I can have an all inclusive in the sun thanks very much.

London isn't much different.

Who is going to pay and arm and a leg to stay there with better options.

Way over priced.
