Who are the winners and who continues to move up?

Each winner moves up to the next weight and challenges that winner

(for example...Gomez beats Jofre and moves up to fight winner of Pep-Sanchez....with that winner moving up)

122 lbs. - Wilfredo Gomez vs Eder Jofre

126 lbs.- Willie Pep vs Salvador Sanchez.

130 lbs. - Alexis Arguello vs Manny Pacquiao

135 lbs. - Roberto Duran vs Julio Cesar Chavez.

140 lbs. - Aaron Pryor vs Henry Armstrong

147 lbs. - Barney Ross vs Floyd Mayweather

154 lbs. - Sugar Ray Leonard vs Sugar Ray Robinson

160 lbs. - Carlos Monzon vs Marvin Hagler.

168 lbs. - Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones jr.

175 lbs. - Ezzard Charles vs Gene Tunney

200 lbs.- Evander Holyfield vs Rocky Marciano

HEAVYWEIGHT - Muhammad Ali vs Joe Louis.

It's a novel idea. I like it. I think it could well spark some decent discussion. This is how I settled on it...

Jofre bested Gomez, but lost to Arguello. Arguello was then eliminated by Duran, who, in turn, met his match in Armstrong. Armstrong continued on past Mayweather, but fell to Robinson, who came unstuck against Monzon. Monzon relegated Jones, but ran out of steam in meeting Charles, who lost to Marciano, who was comprehensively stopped by Louis.

Many swing or near-swing fights, here. I could just as easily have gone with Pacquiao over Arguello, Ross over Mayweather, Holyfield over Marciano, & Ali over Louis. The other match-ups were all deserving of considerable thought, too.

C'mon, folkes, this thread ain't a bad idea, & could easily be expanded on. There are several thought-provoking, difficult-to-call matches, here.

What say the masses?

I had an issue with Barney Ross and Henry Armstrong at weight classes next to each other because Henry had decisively beaten Barney. I thought about Armstrong at 135 lbs. vs Chavez and Duran at 140 versus Pryor but the appeal for a Duran-Chavez fight was too great as was the similarities of Pryor - Armstrong making a great fight.
The same issue was with Leonard and Hagler at weight classes next to each other but if they both were to win I would loved to see a rematch anyway.

Also what to do with Jack Dempsey. I decided that because he had been beaten not just once but twice by one of the greatest light heavyweights in Gene Tunney that I would have to go with Marciano vs Holyfield (which wasn't a very hard pick anyway)

Are you saying a post-prime Dempsey's losses to ring legend Tunney really hurt him that severely? I'm sure a 1999 Holyfield or Marciano (had he stayed on just a little longer) would've looked pretty poor against a peak Tunney, as Dempsey admittedly did twice.

I think that the choices of Marciano and a 200 lb. Holyfield were correct no matter what.
