I pay £50 plus for SKy and mainly for the boxing..Sky Boxing is crap or PPV or both!
If I cancel SKY altogether can I still view setanta from the Sky Box - I do not have Freeview!

buy a chipped box then you pay nothing for both
However, that would be illegal. We do not condone the discussion of illegal activities on Boxrec.
However, we have no idea as to what is discussed via private messages .......

You can D.G. I did it. I phoned up and cancelled SKY packages and paid about £30 one-off for my SKY box to effectively become a Freeview box. I kept Setanta running as it has nothing to do with SKY (which is just a medium for running it through) plus you get about 10 more channels when it comes through SKY as opposed to Freeview and doesn't cut off at 3am.
Hope this helps

The chipped box sounds good - but this is better!
Thanks, mate!

The only thing that is keeping me from cancelling sky is the nascar and indy coverage as they're the only channels that show it
Skys boxing coverage between summer 2005 and summer 2008 was excellent but now it's gone all shit with the mismatches and so on.

I did the same a couple of months ago. I don't have an aerial on my house so I was worried, but the Sky box works fine as a Freeview and I didn't have to pay anything extra.

Cancel sky sports, that's what I did, it's by far the most expensive for the package, saved me 22 quid a month.

yep thats what I've got, a sky box but no subscription (so freeview channels only), and then I just pay setanta a tenner (i think) a month for their channels. Would never pay for a sky subs. it's crap. Got boxing & footy with setanta, and Minder on ITV4, what more do you need?

You can get Setanta by Broadband for 7.99pm. It's an excellent quality picture with (thus far) no problems

So is it possible to get a DVD of the sky shows we really want to see if they up their game. Feel free to PM me and tell me how to do it.
Sky's had to go for now 'cos i've been made redundant.

Just cancelled SKY..BUT...
Got a decent deal instead , I think!
Free Telephone Line Rental for a Year (New Deal on at the moment) NO CONTRACT £0.00
Unlimited Broadband £10.00 per month.(1 Year contract)
Sky Variety Pack and News Pack for £18.50 a month.NO CONTRACT.
Totak £28.50
So from paying:
£53.00 per month for Sky
£12.00 per Month for BT Line Rental
£17.99 to Orange for Broadband
Total Cost £82.99 a month.
I now pay £28.50 a month!
I will cancel the Variety pack and News Pack after a month because I am in credit of £30.00.
Reason for cancelling SKY? The poor Boxing they show.
This allows me to buy any decent PPVs they might show.

As others have said, if you cancel Sky, you can still subscribe to the Setanta package, and you also get a couple of hundred free channels, including the BBC, ITV and C4 family of channels.
The one thing to bear in mind, if you have it, is that Sky+ is a Sky subscription service, so you won't be able to record, or even watch old recordings.

10 quid a month to keep the recording facilities.
