I just talked to Ike the other day, he says he just lost his flare for boxing, and gave it all up for the love of a good woman.

All he has to do is keep those voices quiet for the duration, not stuff one of the board in his trunk, and he'll be out and on the washed-up heavyweight merry-go-round before you know it.

Might be a reasonable time to bring up his wiki entry:
Ibeabuchi, who has been diagnosed with bipolar and schizo-effective disorders, remained jailed with mentally ill offenders until authorities could determine whether he was competent or not to stand trial. State doctors said he could be made competent with medication. Ibeabuchi had refused voluntary medication because it was believed it would cause motor-skill problems that would damage his boxing career. In a split decision, two of three doctors determined Ibeabuchi was competent to stand trial. A third doctor determined he was not competent.
Good stuff.

I'd hate to hijack this wonderful, and never brought up before thread... however...

Anyone have any idea whats up with the former 2004 US Olympic boxer Roberto Benitez (didn't qualify for the games, but was top US at his weight)?

http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer

He was 5-0 and then suddenly has been off for over 2 years now. I searched and came up with nothing.

Maybe one of our resident Myspace whores will drop him a line and find out why he's not boxing anymore.

IF he gets out this month, he'll still be facing deportation hearings, so its no forgone conclusion he'd get back in the mix....

How come Kassan Saxton doesn't get the same attention as Ike, thats the real question.

Come on, he's a heavyweight boxer too, and a cold blooded murderer! Much better than a lousy rapist.

He's going on thirty-six, hasn't fought in a decade, & is obese.

Let the guy fade out, already

Parole Hearing was held on 02/26/2009 at PAROLE BOARD CARSON CITY OFFICE ROOM 201.

How long does this stuff take? Unless he was denied again?

There is something I do not understand in Ike's case. AFAIR, the "lap dancer" just wanted to be paid for her services in cash, not by cheque. I am not sure if she discussed it before "the services" took place, but anyway it looks more like fraud case (at worst) than rape ;-). He was also resisting arrest (by closing bathroom doors or something like that from what I have heard), but it still does not seem that serious (compared to his sentence).

Was Ike simply too cheap to hire semi-skilled lawyer?

No, he was a vile fella who raped her & locked her in a closet as i recall. But maybe i'm wrong? One of the Ike experts may verify.

I don't think you're getting it? Mike and Ike are both innocent. Ike would have been the greatest ever HW without the prison sentence. Mike was the greatest heavyweight before the prison sentence.

I hope this helps, mate.

-My friend, this is the internet age. Most of this stuff is known if you can sift thru the BS.

Ike was already on parole for kidnapping and almost killing the son of his ex-girlfriend. After the Tua fight, he started holding conversations with fridges and AC units. He's a mentally ill menace, much more so than Tyson. His parole was revoked and he was sentenced. He's lucky the kid survived as he ran his car into a highway pillar in a suicide attempt. after being spotted by the police.

He's done, finished, kaput. If by odd chance he's paroled, he'll be deported to Nigeria where it's perfectly legal to beat up prostitutes for fun.

I was never suggesting he is not done (Ezzard, I did not say that he was innocent and that he would be greastest champion ever either - I think you tried to read too much between the lines  ).

I was only surprised his case went the way it did. I think you can agree no mather how guilty he was, he was at least equally crazy (I recall doctors debated if he is sane enough to be responsible for his deed, and Ike lost this one by SD ;-) )

Now, before everybody with literacy problems ;-) bashes me, I was not saying he was nice person and deserved to be free. I was just thinking, based on my (lack of) knowledge of law, that his case could've easily gone other way.
