Congratulations FW

It is a coup to get MAB over here and it can't be cheap. FW is widely criticised for conservative matchmaking and not giving the paying public/TV audiences value for money.
Has he changed or are we just going to damn him for throwing Khan to the wolves if it goes wrong??
Or is FW more confident of making money in having a cut of MAB twighlight years? Or will the fight never happen?
Or maybe is FW finally being held to ransom by Sky??

Well, Khan has had the big hype and now it's time for the big build up, training with Roach and getting big names in the ring.
Also, Khan is a PPV fighter now so they need to justify us shelling out in these hard times. A name, whatever state the name is in, will help here. After Prescott they really need to convince ppl to part with their money I would think.
Khan wants the extra money that PPV brings, he'll want to do something to bury the Prescott farce, so here we are...You want the bigger prizes, you take the bigger gambles.

Warrén has worked with Barrera before, and it was only the last year or so that a fight with Arthur was very close to being a done deal - If their was one big name he could get in for Khan, it would be Barrera.
It doesn't make a lot of sense though - From Fagan to Barerra is a huge jump in quality - The weight and size difference is going to be a big plus for Khan, but if Barrera has anything left, he should be able to close of the ring enough to negate Khan's fast hands.
What I find interesting is were does Khan go if he wins? - There won't be any stepping back down to fight area level fighters with a name like Barrera on the ledger - Most people agree that Khan isn't ready for world elite, but isn't that exactly were he is going to be at with a Barrera win.
I suspect a lot of politics are at play here.

I think you will find a lot of W arrens shows will be on Setanta!!! - behind the scenes "politics" means that they definitely will be.
And yes I agree with the title of your thread - congratulations to W arren he has definitely pulled off a coup with this fight.

I am not stating Khans fight will not be on sky - its just a lot of W arrens shows will be on Setanta - in my opinion ;;-) a little "battle" behind the scenes has been lost!!!

Kudos to Warren
if he can put this fight together.
Still, if it falls through it wouldn't be the first time that he had prematurely ammounced a fight, received a blaze of publicity, and then quietly had to go back on that announcement and offer a far inferior product in it's place.
Still, hope springs eternal.

Yes, early I know but so far Marco Antonio Barrera, his coaching team and Don King have been very quiet.

I heard sky were not happy after last pay per view show so maybe he had to deliver but we the fight actually happen like Banks V macca!!. I am surprised if Setanta want him back he use the olympians like Khan on ITV. I rather see more us and german competitive fights than mismatches for 2 years with Olympians.

What, FW owes Setanta a year's worth of fights, and is going to deliver some "big fights" (but not the biggest ones) for them or something?

Autobarn,
We have to be careful here - lets just say a certain promoter due to the fall out sometime ago will be showing some of his fighters on Setanta - lets call it some gentle persuasion!! - havn't a clue who that promoter is - but he will be showing some of his fighters and some big fights!!!

Agreed. I'll congratulate Warren after the fight. GStalker mentioned in the 'Current Scene' that Warren will be watching Barrera's next fight with eagle eyes, and if he looks too good, will make an excuse for this fight not to happen.

Did anyone else think it was sad that while most promoters in Warren's position would have said 'This is a great competitive fight' (whether they thought it or not) whereas Warren said something to the tune of 'I think we got Barrera at the right time'.
This was a chance for him to hit back at Hayemaker et al, and put across the point that he IS interested in putting on quality matchups (even though we know he isn't)
Not only does he fail to understand that Barrera is not past it, he doesn't even sell the fight how it should be sold even if MAB was shot...

I think you will find you are nearly there but not quite. Maybe a question people should be asking is how upset were Setanta when Frank decided to go to Sky whilst it was reported he still had a contract with them!!!

Spud - Setanta would have had a huge claim for damages, compo etc...but it was all based on the potential earnings of Khan. Prescott knocked a massive hole in their case.

They never had contract with Khan he was Itv. The whole deal was strange that better of letting him and the mismatches go.
