Nicky Cooks opponent is down on boxrec! Anyone know much about this guy? He is Roman Martinez, undefeated from Puerto Rico - names on his record include Daniel Jimenez and a WBO penta-continental belt or something.

I have seen Martinez fight on DVD but cannot remember where or against whom! Cook needs a win here and a couple of other CREDIBLE defences before I will take him seriously as a world level operator. A win over Arthur for the WBO strap in a domestic level affair means a questionable status as a world champion.

I don't know much about him but he seems stronger than the usual FW opponent, prob cheap tho!

He is the Mandatory - if he were not it would be Cook v a SN Feather.

Dagenham stylist Nicky Cook makes the first defence of his WBO super-featherweight title against Puerto Rican threat Roman Martinez on the big Khan-Barrera bill in Manchester on March 14.
It is a mandatory defence.
The gritty, clever, stiff-punching Cook wrested the title with a shock but unanimous decision over Edinburgh puncher Alex Arthur last September in Manchester. After nine worthy years at featherweight, 29-year-old Nicky proved a revelation at super-featherweight as he outworked a flat-looking Arthur and finished much the stronger of the two. Some fighters really struggle when they move up in weight; other fighters make it look easy. Cook made it look easy. Yes, everyone said Arthur was dead at the weight but they had been saying that for years. "Amazing" Alex went into the Cook defence on a long winning run.
"Rocky" Martinez is unbeaten in 22 fights (one draw) since turning pro in December 2001 and earned his ranking when he came through 12-round wars with Dominican warriors Francisco Lorenzo and Daniel Jimenez in 2007. He ticked over with four wins last year and looks like a great prospect at 25 - sharp and quite heavy handed. Like Nicky he has plenty of height and reach for his weight. The draw on his record came in 2003 in Miami with a Colombian by the name of Jose Leonardo Cruz. Cruz, 9-0 at the time, never went on to achieve anything.
You know, Martinez has never fought outside of America or Puerto Rico and might be a little inexperienced on the world scene. He failed to stop lanky Colombian southpaw Walter Estrada over 10 rounds in his last outing in December, a man our own Kevin Mitchell had caught up with in five rounds earlier in the year.
Cook, 29-1 (16), has lost only to slick American southpaw Steven Luevano, the current WBO featherweight champion, and held British, Commonwealth and European featherweight titles in his time. He enjoys a real edge in seasoning over Martinez, and home advantage, of course, and his new weight suits him. He must be favoured to box and punch his way to a hard-earned decision.

its wasnt the Daniel Jimenez that he beat it was a Daniel Jimenez

Yeah, seems the be one of those fights that won't really be "missed" by many if it slips off this bill- shame, as its looks like a good one.

To be honest they are talking about Khan, Enzo and Cook in title fights- I'd say 2 out of 3 going ahead ain't bad.

Thing is they are claiming Enzo is fighting Banks, everything I have read is pointing towards Banks fighting Adamek, whats even more strange is there has not been a single interview or press release from Barrera which I find rather worrying.

Cook will more than likely be the main event

Thats what I'm worried about too mate which is why I won't be buying a ticket until I hear something definite from Barrera's side.
Re-Martinez , the thing that stands out is that he failed to stop Walter Estrada(a natural superbantam), who after giving it a go crumpled pretty easily against Scott Harrison once under pressure. I'd say Cook UD buts its hard to tell without having seen Martinez fight.
