Ok so I am taking a sports history class and I was jsut wondering if any of you wonderful guys know where I can get my hands on the first ever recorded boxing match (which was also the first ever recorded sporting event)? I am ashamed to say that I don't remember the names of the fighters, but I am planning to give the class a proper view of boxing.

I think it's the exhibition (literally an exhibition, nothing more) of Corbett & Courtney, isn't it?

It's available (clips, not the entire thing) on the DVD, The Best Of The Heavyweights (hosted by Kurt Gowdy). Available through sportsdelivered.com.au. Probably on E-Bay or Amazon, too.

The one I was thinking of was filmed at the end of the 19th century so around 1890's, I think it was between Leonard and ....Cushing... but whatever I can get my hands on is great... THANK YOU

Corbett-Courtney was not the first. The first was a sparring session between Mike Leonard and Jack Cushing filmed by Thomas Edison in 1894. Two months later, James Corbett and Peter Courtney were hired by Edison for a five-round sparring session that was shown in peepshows around the country.

Yeah I found the clip of the leonard cushing fight from 1894. It's pretty much the coolest 36 seconds of video, it was filmed by Thomas Edison himself!
