Bredis Prescott - Handcuffed?

Autobarn, I think your post on the Tony Jefferies thread, warranted its own one.
Anybody know when and where Prescott will fight next? Is it true that FW/SN are blocking his fight with Toledo (it was supposed to be Hernandez, but now he is scheduled to fight Toledo) - the fight is still on in the schedules here.
Whats happening, I'd hate to see a good boxer robbed of his prime years...

I hope Prescott can get on with his career in America. He's down to face Humberto Toledo now, Feb 20. Better than the previous choice of opponent as Toledo is at least a genuine lightweight.
Surely there's a limit to what FW will do for him. Khan being the big name.
Hate to see his career get held up.
Perhaps if Khan gets devastated again, FW could do with another top lightweight.

It simply doesn't work Autobarn - getting the services of an excellent import.
I mean look at Olusugen, Nuumbembe, Mbaye etc - haven't exactly been the biggest success stories.
Even Freitas, Barrera etc had contracts with SN - didn't have an career path for these.

Very true, I fail to see what FW can do for Prescott, what he can get out of Prescott. When Khan is the big investment and the big star.
(Only thing I can see is, wait till Prescott has had some kind of horrific, punishing defeat and then make Khan-Prescott II.)
Surely it would be best for many ppl if Prescott was forgotten about in the Khan-MAB buzz and never seen again on these shores.
Precott belongs in America, where he can be pushed into a WBO title challenge to Nate Campbell. I hope Prescott doesn't owe him many fights. Hopefully Boxingchat can enlighten us. Maybe he should get it out of the way, beat up Craig Docherty or whoever, and then move up...

Well, he could push Prescott towards a world title and should he win, that's another route to a title shot for Khan. Getting Khan to win is another story.

Or, he could use him to take out Khan's rivals such as Murray.
Or, bring Alex Arthur up in weight and attempt to revive his career with a match against Prescott.

Prescott is a very capable fighter - I do not understand why Warren if he has "options" on Prescott why he would want to "handcuff" him - although I concede on the surface it seems that is whats happening.
Problem is - regardless of the options or not - for Warren to get Prescott and his team over here on another show in a fight which some may not be interested in is going to cost a lot of money and thus not a lot of gain for the promotional company itself - its a shame because he is a good fighter.

Can't see what good can come of Prescott's career a) under Warren, and b) if he's not allowed to fight under anyone else's banner.
Hopefully it was a verbal "agreement" that got lost in translation (being optimistic here)

Warren will want to handcuff him, if he feels Prescott has been a bit "underhand" and signed a deal with another promoter despite not really being a free agent. When Warren claimed he had Prescott I was struggling to think of what he can do with him... I don't want to see Prescott vs Docherty in some leisure centre.
Howard Eastman and Danny Williams were good fighters in their prime, remember Don King there.
Promoters can be petty people.

Isn't Prescott promoted by the turkish guy?

The boxers are the real stars who take the biggest risk, so it would be nice to see guys like Prescott have the chance to make the most of their careers. Prescott has some real momentum following the Khan win, and hopefully Arena Box can take him to his fullest potential i.e. a shot at the Campbell-Funeka winner. That's the utopian, ideal, naive scenario.
If he got tied up with FW/SN, hell, it would seem almost cruel. The promoters should have a duty to maximising the fighter's earnings and potential and I cannot see that happening, not from the promoter of the big name that is Khan. At lightweight, over here, it's all about Khan. Is this punishment for beating Khan, almost? Pugalistic purgatory?
Is this a sign that if you beat Khan, you just can't win? Makes you wonder, why bother in the 1st place.

it's a simple one this.
did prescott sign an options clause.
i don't agree with them.
but if he did i can see why warren wants to pursue it.
like the rest of u i think warren should refuse the options clause on him.
let prescott get on with things abroad.

Isn't he with a US Promoter now, Warrior Boxing I thought?

Yes, even if Prescott signed an options clause, I would still like to see the "human" thing and let Prescott continue to fight and build that moment - let him beat Toledo (a name fighter, if past it) and then use him.
Instead it will be pushing a year out of the ring, and even if Prescott does fight for Warren next - he will be rusty and could slip up... unless, that is part of the plan of course!

the only benefit of the options clause is to set up a khan-prescott rematch.
but warren didn't seem interested in that just after the fight did he.

The fact that Warren quickly told us all he had nothing to do with bringing in Prescott and then fired the guy who he had passed the blame to tells you all you need to know as to his thoughts on Khan ever fighting Prescott again. Will never happen whilst Khan is with SN.

I think Arena are saying that they signed Prescott before the Khan fight.

It would be a real shame and another thing wrong with the sport if Prescott is handcuffed, he looks like a potential Tito Trinidad/Hearns of the LWs (well not as polished)

Reminded me of a young Acelino Freitas

I think a Prescott Vs Alex Arthur match up is perfect.
It is a headline bout in its own right. If Prescott wins, he gets a former "world" champ on his record and increases his chances of getting a title shot proper.
If Arthur wins, he is back with a bang after losing his last fight in lacklustre fashion. It would be a do or die fight for him to save his career at top level.
I don't see how Warren would lose with a match like this. Have it in Scotland and you'd get a sell out probably.

I think Prescott would murder Athur - Arthur is going to be a small lightweight, without true KO power and still going to have his own defensive weaknesses. Yes, he will probably be more durable that Khan - but I think style wise tailor made for Prescott.

Amazing how over the top some of you guys are, based on 50 seconds.
I'm sure the nods to Hearn/Freitas wouldn't have applied if you'd seen prescott's previous fight - Seems to me you pair got sucked in by the Khan hype machine.

Regardless, Prescott came into Khan's turf, knocked out a suppsedly super fast prospect and "deserves" to move on.
The champ Nate Campbell is not one of those who ducks, delays, defers his top challengers so I'd just like to see everything keep on moving forward.
Prescott might just be a plodder with a good one-two. Or he might, you never know, be a Caballero caibre guy who plods his way vs cagey unknowns but annihilates good fighters when he steps into their backyard.
Caballero was a "pile of shit" etc when he fought a durable Mexican fringe contender on Showtime. But when he fought guys like Ponce de Leon, Molitor, Sithchachawal away from home he was absolutely on fire.
None of us know what calibre Prescott will be - especially based only on one round - but we'd all like to see if he can do it. Don't think we'll find out if he fights on FW/SN cards, ever.
