Tyson Fury - Too much too soon?

I see that Fury wants to fight Sam Sexton on the Thaxton undercard in Norwich. Sexton is a tough pro with a good number of bouts under his belt.
If this comes off, is it a step too far too soon for Fury?
Assuming it happens and he comes through it, what do you think the chances are of getting him in with Chisora sometime later in the year?

It's good to see that Tyson doesn't want to hang about, if his chin is as good as people (i.e. Mick Hennessy) say and his stamina is decent then I think he's going to be very difficult to beat as he looks to have the offensive skills in the ring, too early to comment on his defensive skills yet. Not quite sure that he's 5 times more skilled than any current HW (as he proclaims
![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
), but from first impressions I think he'll do well. His weakness looks to be his power, but there's still time for this to improve as he's only a baby, albeit a fcuking humungous one
If he gets Sexton next up then that's some seriously aggressive matchmaking, but I'd pick Tyson to win it, probably on points. As for the Chisora fight, who's Derek promoted by? if it's Wazza then it's unlikely the fight will happen as Mick and Frank can't agree on the colour of grass

I don't think it matters really, the higher quality the opposition then the sooner we know if he's the real deal.

Interesting fight if it happened. I think Tyson may well take Sexton as he looked very pedestrian against Kenna and Tyson's movement and work to the body will frustrate and wear down Sexton.
I was worried about Tyson's power from his last fight, but seeing as it was his second pro fight and not knowing too much about his last opponents chin I'm very interested to see how he fares against other British heavyweights, maybe Sexton is a step to far at this stage, but a lower opponent/gate keeper like Kenna will show how good he is.

Well I doubt it will happen as Sexton is aligned to Sports Network, although they let him contest the Prizefighter so maybe he could get on the Hennessy bill. Sexton has more ring experience but over 6x3's it could be interesting, especially if Fury sheds a stone and gets running those roads. However let's be realistic, it's not really going to happen is it

If he did fight and beat Sexton (who is very decent), then for me, he would be the number one heavyweight prospect in the world.

Steady on! Sexton hasn't even claimed a WBU International title yet

SN are going to go with a Chisora v Sexton rematch, no way do they let him fight Fury on a Hennessey bill. Which i'm sure Mick knows only too well. Keeps people talking about Fury though doesn't it

Whilst Tyson has plenty of plus points in terms of his boxing skills and size, he still showed classic traits of a pro novice in his secong bout - a lack of stamina and ideas.
He kept going to the right uppercut because it was landing but once the guy in front of him didnt fall over he didn't switch his boxing to find the path to a clean KO.
I would like to see him brought along a little slower against more determined robust types like his last opponnent where he has to work for the stoppage. Give him 8 - 10 learning fights then let him off the leash..

I agree completely - it would be terrible if they put him in with, say a John McDermott too early and he loses because of inexperience of lack of pro rounds. At this stage he just needs opponents who will give him a few rounds to test his stamina. Lets see him do at least eight rounds at a pace before he jumps into the higher domestic class.

Hennessy is only calling Sexton out because he knows the fight won't happen. Then thay will claim they wanted the fight and people one here will believe them. Sexton, having won Prizefighter, will have his own career plans and is not simply a Fury opponent.

Chisora is already fighting on the 30th, so there is a small window of opportunity to fight Sexton if they push it through in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe put Tyson on the next Heavyweight prizefighter?

The next heavyweight prize fighter would be good for him.

If Fury is the serious heavyweight prospect many feel he is, he won't be bothering with Prizefighter - which rarely goes to plan.
Build him up properly, plenty of fights this year against tough guys who are gonna hang around and give him something to think about. Talk of Sexton and McDermott for a 3rd fight is ridiculous.

I would fancy Sexton to beat Chisora if they met again.

I said before on another topic why rush Fury(a youngster at the weight)so quickley i think he could well beat Sexton at that time but maybe not :?? if he keeps getting pushed his career could be all over in a few years....

OK then, who would pick Fury to beat Sexton in his next fight?
I still think Fury's got loads to learn, but I'd pick him over Sexton. Is that a sign of me falling for Hennessy's hype or an indication of just how shallow the British heavyweight division is right now?

Why is Hennessy hyping Fury so much everyday there seems to be another story on him. He still a novice why rush him.

I disagree, he was having plenty of success with the uppercut, and many other shots. He got the TKO, don't think its fair to criticise because he did not get a clean KO. The guy had a good chin. It was only his second pro fight and he did extremelly well. I think he showed plenty of variety. 2 stoppages out of two pro fights, cant complain.

Not me, Sam's a nice boxer and he would be a little much for Fury if they fought next. Stupid fight to make. I would keep putting Fury in with the same standard fighters as Zeller - men who come to win, but lack a few tools. I would like to see him get to 13-0 before facing someone of the ilk of Sexton or McDermott.

Wanting to run before he can walk. Brave move, I agree, but he needs more experiance. Cant see him getting a chance against Chisora, they will be kept apart, until one of them loses, then maybe. Stamina seems to be Furys problem and he doesnt need 10/12 rounds just yet. I think his father thinks Tyson can take the World on and is pushing him far too early.

Swaby would be a good test and not much of a danger.

I pick Fury over Sexton even now, with confidence.
