Froch to Taylor: "You're right - I'm no Joe Calzaghe"

WBC super middleweight champ, Carl “The Cobra” Froch says he’s delighted to hear that Jermain “No Intentions” Taylor is alive and well after all. The former World middleweight champ and mandatory challenger for Froch’s title has been mysteriously quiet of late but he finally surfaced at the weekend.

Taylor released a statement waffling on about Joe Calzaghe but was still ambiguous about his desire to trade punches with Froch who is new King of the super middleweights following his thrilling title win over Jean Pascal in December.

“I’m just happy to hear from Taylor to be honest as he’s been on the missing persons list for the last few weeks now,” said Froch who was honoured with a civic reception in his native Nottingham last week. “Everyone in his camp from his promoter to his trainer is saying that he wants to shut me up but I still haven’t heard that from Jermain.

“Instead he went on about how he never got the chance to fight Calzaghe. Joe would probably have tapped and slapped his way to a boring points win but I guarantee you, I will smoke Taylor’s boots and destroy him.

“He did get one thing right though when he said that I’m no Joe Calzaghe. That’s certainly true. When Calzaghe won a version of the world title it took him 10 and a half years to fight in the U.S. and 44 fights before he won the title that I now hold.

“I’m willing to cross the Atlantic for my very first defence and take on all comers, you won’t find me hiding at home for the next decade and hand picking my defences. I respect Joe, he’s been a great champion and he’s beaten everyone put in front of him but let’s face it two uninspiring points wins over a pair of old timers hardly makes him a boxing legend.”

Despite Taylor’s reluctance to talk about a fight with Froch it appears the clash is close to being signed for a mid April date. “I’m hearing that it’s looking very promising but they’ll probably still need to drag Taylor to the ring kicking and screaming because I don’t think he wants any part of me.

“Taylor says that the best should fight the best, well what’s he waiting for then? And if that was the case why was he considering swerving me and fighting the likes of Jean Pascal – the guy I just beat or Allan Green.

“In my opinion Taylor sees his career as one big gravy train and he wants some more easy paydays before it grinds to a halt. I believe he doesn’t have any respect for the fans that actually pay his wages and would rather talk the talk without walking the walk.

“His promoter said that I’ve brought out the beast in him well let’s hope he’s beast enough to finally put pen to paper and get the fight on.”

He did fight Hopkins and Pavlik twice though so he ain't chicken. I thought he won the Pavlik rematch though and thought Spinks beat him.

He'll beat Froch though on jab and movement alone.

Froch probably would have a better career If It wasn't for his promoters ego too, same with Witter maybe.

I love Carl Froch's attitude.

Unlike some fighters, he is also willing to walk the walk too.

I wish he was 7 - 8 years younger.

Froch Is a walk the walk version of Charlie Zelenoff and has more chin and heart than him but he talks as much shit as Chuckles.

Taylor's gunna make him squeal like a piiiig Arkansas style.

I much prefer Froch to Calzaghe.

Froch will beat Taylor, and force him to pronounce his name properly at the end.

I also prefer Froch to Calzaghe. Agree with most of what he says. He just has to deliver on the night and the world's his oyster.

It was in response to Jermaine Taylor saying that "Froch is no Calzaghe"

Strange you don't really see froch talking trash that much just quotes of him in HS press releases when you see him interviewed he doesn't seem that kind of guy.

Would love to see this fight and recon Froch's power would be too much. Its odd how the same people who put up with years of shit title defencess and defended Calzaghe now give froch shit and say he has no skill, it seems some boxing fans are happy with substandard defences and boring fight as long there guy predictably wins.

Boring compaired to Calzaghe? Watching people trying to KO the best fighters they can get in the ring with is so tyersome I'd much rather watch someone fight Mario Viet twice and then a couple of old men slapping his way to a decision!

At the time I would say Hopins was considered on the slide and 100% negative.

Yes - he fought Pavli BUT at catchweoiht whih he thought suited HIM more.

I think Froch gets outsped for mlost of the fight but from round 8 onwards - its Frochy Time!

Seems odd to say Hopkins was considered to be on the slide when he'd just schooled Tarver and Wright?

I like Froch's positive attitude towards his career etc but it is also really grating on me his constant shit about Joe.

1. Joe is no longer a future possible opponent (if he ever was anyway)
2. I'm a massive Calzaghe fan and now that Joe has retired I want to start supporting the next best thing Britain has to offer (Froch), but I'm finding it harder each day to like him, he should really stop with the JC Bashing or he's going to alienate so many fans

Calzaghe was not a boring boxer in the slightest. If you want to talk routine fights, then talk about Froch's fights against Charles Adamu, Dale Westerman, Ruben Groenwald, Matthew Barney, Mark Woolnough, Alan Page, Vage Kocharyan or Henry Porras. Froch needs to be motivated to box well, just the same as Calzaghe did. Sometimes if Carl didn't get the early KO against an average opponent, he could look very one-paced. It was a brilliant finish against Magee, but that was a close fight until then.

I was at the Magee fight. Anyone else there will tell you it was a bloody tear up.

Froch knew he would of got the Lacy treatment so thats why he turned down his chance.


If Froch didn't back out he would think he was In an episode of Dragonball Z Calzaghe would be that fast.
