Witter off to Italy to face Branco?

I noticed on the schedule that Witter is due to fight Branco in Italy next month for the latter's european title. Haven't heard it announced anywhere - can anyone confirm this? Tough fight for Witter. I'm guessing he didn't have many other options (such as a mooted eliminator with Devon Alexander). If I was with his team this would have been the last option as Branco is a tricky customer and if Witter doesn't stop him he'll struggle to get any favours on the scorecard in Italy. But on the plus side if he wins he'll be in a good position to get a rematch with Bradley as Branco is highly rated with the WBC(#9 - Witter is #2).

I read something recently from Witter's people that they've signed up or are going to sign for this fight, but expect to withdraw if a World title fight comes off before then. Not sure about the details.

Oh dear, I can see Branco giving Witter a right royal run-about, and it wouldn't be the first time either. It's one thing Colin Lynes going over there, but I can't see the Italians wanting to box Witter. We'll see...

Branco looked awful those first 4/5 rounds against Lynes, and looked worse against Tolpolla (I had the Finn two ahead when the first was prematurely stopped in my opinion). I think Junior could go over the and knock him out.

....and that's why Branco's lot will be looking to mess Witter about.

Better to stay active if you ask me.

That's the problem James, he won't stay active. Branco has messed Witter around many times in the past and I can't see them choosing to fight him now. Going back even N'Dou was a late replacement for Branco.
Let hope the Alexander fight comes off

Exactly...Branco and his people have allegedly been a right pain.

We'll see what happens.
I just hope that if the Alexander fight can't be made before say mid June that this date with Branco is made.
There hasn't been any news of this from Hennessy tho and it does suprise me that he would lose a purse bid as he does have a habit of winning bids when his fighters are in European title fights.

I'd prefer Witter to fight Alexander (maybe on the Froch-Taylor card?) but if he does get Branco in the ring, let's hope he "does a Lauri" on him i.e. whip him so badly, he makes him cry!

Let' hope so, but Branco is miles better than Lauri.

Not anymore he's not, Witter(if he has anything at all left) will dispatch of Branco easily if they fight.
I'm kind of disappointed as it means Paul McCloskey mightn't get the chance to do it instead.
