Guillermo Rigondeaux

Post by boxeo543 »

2 time World Champion, 2 Pan American Games Champion, and 2 Time Olympic Champion.. Guillermo Rigondeaux, is finally free from Cuba. At the age of 27 Guillermo was today found in Miami, and was said he has made the choice to turn professional with he's teamates Yuriorkis, Yan, Solis, and landrey.. what is your opinion on this situation? such a talented amateur now pro..

I think it is great news for boxing and I am looking forward to him boxing as a pro. He accomplished everything he could as an amateur so it makes sense that he wants to box pro and try to make some of the big money that many of the champs make today.
What is sad is that Cuba does not allow their boxers to turn pro and he had to defect and leave his family. Hopefully that will change one day like it has in the former Soviet Union countries and in China. Hopefully one day Rigondeaux and the other Cuban boxers who defected will be able to return to their country and be treated like cleberties if they win world titles like boxers get treated in other Latin American countries.
