Some of the material is difficult to make out still mastering microfilm and trying to get the best conversion of it possible. I think it would save me money if I just take a camera and take pictures then just mess around in photoshop. Not sure though any ideas feel free to email [email protected]

I was having a conversation about Frankie Depaula today with my uncle. He was telling me some really wild stories from back in the day I stopped over at the NYC library to pick some material up on him.

This was a classic matchup! The hype surrounding the fight said Fernandez the tough Cuban defect would take the fight to Carter as the illustration drew up by Stark from the Daily News pictured below depicts but the skinny on the fight from the writers and the insiders of the sweet science saw Fernandez as a fighter ready for the taking he was coming into this fight losing 3 fights earlier in 1962 by knockout. (Note: Those 3 loses however were against Gene Fullmer SD15, Dick Tiger TKO6, and Joey Giambra TKO7 - cuts and he went on to upset the undefeated Jose Torres at home in Puerto Rico in a few more fights after this one.) The cover of the Daily news was classic the next morning with an image of Carter as the reaper that would inevidably be engraved in the minds of New Yorkers for years to come.

Channel 7 opted to go with a "special" - The worlds' women - a spin-off of Ms. Universe in their 10pm est timeslot instead of showing this matchup. How could ya complain about that at least it didn't get interrupted in the 9th with a rerun of Heidi.

I didn't even know Carter was favored in this fight. Joey was in close fights with all the greats of his time and is a champion in my book. If any young fighters want to emulate a boxer watch the left hand of Joey Archer.
