When he was making his pro debut in Brisbane, at the weigh-in I asked him, for BoxRec purpose, whether he'll continue to box as Lenny Zappa? He replied; "I think I'm all grown up now so make it LEONARDO ZAPPAVIGNA"

He's a great well mannered young fella.

Well, before looking the video I obviously looked at his record. The main thing that sticks out is his height. He's short for a Light Welterweight, so in watching him I have Ricky Hatton in the back of my mind.

In parts, he reminded me of Arthur Abraham. High guard as a means of defence and wide punches thrown with the whole force of the body. The only problem is I saw punches travel in between the gloves and land on Zappa. I think he should utilise head movement as he's got good mobility. Maybe he didn't because he didn't respect Browne's power, but it would be wise to get into good habits not bad ones.

He looked pretty decent, skill-wise. He didn't look like much of a puncher though. I think his KO percentage of 76% flatters him. His body punch to end the show was very good. I think his body punching is superior to his head punching, much like Ricky Hatton.

Overall I don't see him as being someone to watch on the World scene yet. He's not destroying people in his early fights, like top fighters usually do. Let's see how he does against St. Clair next. I fancy Zappa to win, but how easy will it be? I don't think he'll end up winning a World title (WBC, IBF, WBA, WBO) unless he improves a lot.

I'll qoute you on this one in about 2 years. he fights as lightweight 95% of the time.
I agree with the 2nd paragraph, but then wow....... of one fight in youtube format, you say this guy doesn't hit hard, i've seen him fight live quite a bit, you can hear his punches when he connects from the bar in the back of the arena. the other 4 fighters ran for 4 the rest of the fights to survive.
The best place to hit a guy thats 5'11 when you 5'6 is where............the body.
Thorough observation of 6 rounds though.

That's the thing though, I've only watched a short fight in Flash format.

Don't twist my words; I didn't say he "doesn't hit hard". I said he doesn't look like much of a puncher, meaning that I don't see him walking over opponents with his power. He will generally have to work very hard for his victories.

If he fights at Lightweight he's got a much better chance. My post was geared towards him being a Light Welterweight as that's what that fight was at.

What are you wanting to quote me on? Did you ask for my opinion so that you could rip it to shreds when something I say is disproved (as will obviously happen seeing as boxing is so unpredictable)?

I agree with a lot of the things you said Asterix, He is only 21 so he can improve his defence and with 4-5 more fights we should get a better perspective.

Yeah, at 21 he's got plenty of time to improve. :TU:

Nah mate, it wasn't bait, i was honestly asking your opinion, i'm just shocked that you can make that sort of a judgement on less than 6 rounds of boxing.
It was quite profound.
Don't flip it back on me, you did say his KO% flattered him, he's not world class Yet ect.
But It is your opinion, and i wont take that away from you, and as we all know, they varie.
Mate I made reference to quoting you, because in 2 years he will be a world champ, but I've seen him fight a couple of times to make that assumption.
And just for the record i did say i agreed with most of what you said, so it wasn't a roast, i just don't agree with the last part.
We've obviously had a clash of opinions here, but I'm sure you can appreciate i don't make judgments that quickly, honestly i expected you to be impressed.
Honestly you post comes across as though his limited, and that opinion comes from referring to his record and a flash format.

All's good. If he wins a World title then I'll be really happy as I generally like to support Australian boxers, especially guys like Katsidis. :TU:

I've only just realised it's a week until his fight with Gairy St. Clair. Shame I won't get to see it outside of sites like YouTube.

Site looks good. I love that it has many of Zapp's fights there because I've only caught him a few times as I'm usually not around in the country when he fights! Hard puncher, good work rate. Going to be entertaining to watch for years.
