Setanta - They should use HBO commentaries

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of the US commentating morons we have to hear on Setanta, for the US bouts, we should get the HBO commentary.
Anyone know why we don't get the HBO team?

I think its something to do with it being a contract with Top Rank (Bob Arum) and not HBO. Top Rank use a different commentary team when broadcasting internationally. Kind of like "Kingvision" - which has the Colonel at the helm (or had anyway)... its the international arm of DK shows. I'd imagine HBO would be alot more expensive.
The most frustrating for me are Eurosports showing of Showbox stuff and ESPN stuff... no disrespect to Bob Mee and Steve Holdsworth - but it is a very bad overdub and the audio isn't good. Its clear Eurosport have the rights to the show, as it is shown in the states - so why don't they stick to it.

I thought it must be something along those lines. I d/l the HBO versions, so at least I get to see their views on the fights.

You want the HBO morons instead of the Top Rank international feed morons? Can we just have the Setanta morons instead. I mean, better to have British morons than Yank morons. Unless of course they have some moron in there with an Oirish or Scortish or Bearmingham accent.

Well I'm an American/English dual national, so I guess that explains it!

I'd much rather have US commentators, they actually seem to commentate on the fight, and I actually like Lampleys obsession with combubox. I'm far more interested in the fight that What both fighters had for breakfast and how often they visit their mum.

I think I made my opinions on HBO commentary known in a different thread the other day
I'd rather gouge my eyeballs out that listen to a bunch of fanboys and a senile old drunk babbling on while a decent analyst like Manny Steward is trying to make his points.
I prefer the Showtime team

It would definitely be better with the HBO team. Not as good as Bernstein & Michaels, but still pretty good in my opinion. The only guy I don't like is Harold Lederman. Thankfully he only gets to talk every three or four rounds. Listening to him and seeing his scorecards makes it easier to understand how judges can f**k up so badly sometimes. He gave round 12 of John/Juarez to John.

Rounds 11 & 12 were Juarez' biggest of the fight.
Jim Lampley is an excellent lead off man though and Merchant is a legend. Steward gives excellent insight for the most part as well. Kellerman is starting to grow more from his days of Fox or whatever channel he used to be on. He's matured a lot.

In a perfect world Ian Darke would cover all fights, I still remember his old Radio 2 commentaries, they were very exciting.

I'll tell you what Setanta do need, a frickin' decent satellite link, trying to watch Buncey's boxing hour and the picture keeps freezing because a couple of clouds are over the house, every other channel is perfect except the Setanta ones

Ian Darke, John Rawling, Bob Mee or Richie Woodhall for me. The Colonel is okay, but the rest are shit.

I was glad to hear Spencer Oliver back recently.
As for the Colonel, he's hilarious. I remember listening to him guest commentating for Australian TV channel Fox Sports and the bout was an absolute stinker between Shannon Taylor and some unknown Argentine for a trouser belt. After eleven rounds of shat suddenly Taylor landed a decent right hand and the Argie responded with a shot of his own. "This is one hell of a fight we got here," yelled the Colonel
