Rogan, who is he?

Just saw him vs Skelton and Harrison, the guy truely reminds me of Rocky Balboa, same style, same physique, same guts, stamina and incredible chin...I was very impressed he just took those shots flush and shrugged...How far can he go?

Rogan is the new Belfast's Peoples Boxing Champion :box: :TU:

Its a Rocky like story from the Belfast Taxi Driver who is real natural hard man. What a story and it has really got the people here talking  :box:

Rogan came to prominence on here due to taking part in, and winning, the first Prizefighter series (which is a mini tournament that happens in a night). He was the underdog against both Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton. So yeah, he really is our very own Rocky Balboa. And he's a really nice guy.

Frank- Warren is pushing for him to fight for the European title, which he obviously deserves a shot because he beat the champion.

I haven't even mentioned that Rogan barely had any amateur fights (anyone know his record?). He says his late start in boxing is because him Mum didn't want him to do it. He's also a part time actor and was/is a taxi driver.

What a guy!

I think he was 27 when he started boxing. HE was still Ulster cchamp twice and all Ireland champ once.

Not sure how many amateru fights he had - around 20???

This guy to me anyway is the reason why i support boxing he is a great . He may not be the most skilled but is a fighter and wins and is technically the best in europe. He beat the odds and told us with great confidence that he would. Only if he were younger or maybe not because he does take a lot of shots.

I'd love to see him do well, but he lacks size and hand speed. Because of this he has to use a relentless pressing style. At 37 i don't expect him to survive too many wars, but that loks to be his only ontion.

I can't see him getting by either Klitshco. He'd look like Sam Peter did v Vilati, but if haye beats Wlad I'd give him a slight chance against Haye.

Who knows

Boxing needs Rogan, more than Rogan needs boxing.

you cant say that about many 12-0 fighters

great story about him fighting in the european championships for ireland, basically he lost and was subsequently sent home for drinking (after the loss). I think his quote was along the lines of "for fcuk sakes, I wasnt some 17 year old kid, I was 31, out of the competition and sent home for having a pint... I knew then it was time to turn pro"

What he lacks in ability he makes up for in confidence and determination and there isn't an ounce of "look at me" arrogance about him(so certain fighters, take note  )

How far can he go? I have no idea. I thought at the time that the Audley win was a fluke and didn't think for a second that he'd do anything other than go down fighting against Skelton. So he's proved me wrong twice already and probably would again.

Didnt he get blown out of being selected for the Olympic qualifiers with the Reynolds brothers because they wanted to spend Christmas at home?

You know what you could be right there.... great shame though. Warren wouldn't pay the underdog much, Fagan got €20,000 to fight Khan, which is pennys when he had to pay for training fees etc...

I wonder how much Rogan got for harrison..... 20,000??? Skelton ..... 25,000???

I have massive respect for Rogan and for his sake I hope he gets a house out of boxing.... I think thats good return for a fighter his age.

Anyway I'll pay good money to watch him in Belfat... Come on Rogie!!!!

Just watched the whole Skelton fight. Tremendous heart and desire by Rogan, as said previously a real-life Rocky story. But IMO if he has to fight Dimitrenko for the european title he'll get beat. At times he was being outboxed by Skelton who is as crude as they come so you'd have to favour a decent boxer with some pop like Dimitrenko to beat Rogan. I'd love Rogan to pull it off though and I have to say he has one helluva chin!

Maybe if he has to fight Dimitrenko for the european forget that for now and get a defence of his commonwealth title under his belt in Ireland? How about an all-Irish clash with Tyson conquerer Kevin McBride?

Think he’s made himself enough fans in the world of boxing now to bring a book out when he hangs them up, I know I wouldn’t mind reading that like.

I think Rogan has already done enough to earn himself a one-off retirement funding fight if promoted right. We just need an Apollo Creed!

Get a tape/dvd of the Skelton fight over to the US now!

Rogan actually has me buzzing more than any fighter has for a while - I just love the story and he seems like a top bloke to boot (as Billy Bessey attests on another thread).

He is Rocky Marciano reincarnated! I'd like to see him learn to block an uppercut a bit better, but overall I think his boxing skills are underrated. What a fantastic throwback he is :D

Martin Rogan is not a stupid man and is self managed, his purse fee's ONLY go UP!

Ian he can box, but how fast can he run ? Not too fast, so you should be ok to do a runner, if he drops you home after his EBU fight in Belfast
