Judah returns May 1!
WIth all the British and Filipino fans in Las Vegas on May 2 for the superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton, Platinum Promotions in association with Big Fish Boxing is planning a notable card the night before at the 7,500-seat arena at the South Point Hotel Casino. Headlining is former two-division world champion Zab Judah against an opponent to be named. Organizers are seeking an opponent from the U.K. and are currently talking to a well known Manchester fighter. The co-main event is a WBC International 122lb title fight featuring Filipino sensation Balweg Pangoyan. Right now Big Fish is in negotiation with tough Mexican fighter Alejandro Perez. The card will also feature a heavyweight fight with Javier Mora vs TBA. There will be three other bouts on the card. Tickets will go on sell late next week.

That would seem the obvious one, and almost certainly who the article was referring to although it would be nice to see someone more deserving get a chance at Zab.
Craig Watson's a Manc, as is Jamie Moore though Judah's been nowhere near light middle in his last couple of fights. Then there's Kell Brook, any chance Warren might be tempted to look at the bigger picture and send him abroad to fight on someone elses card?

No chance. Craig Watson first came to my mind or maybe even Matthew Hatton perhaps.

Rumour is Brook has a Euro shot. I thought Watson was with Hayemaker now?

Even a past his prime Judah would murder Mathew Hatton, it would be like sending a lamb to the slaughter! But, it is most likely to be him. Team Hatton are giving him an opportunity he could never have earned on merit....... a chance to top the bill in Vegas. There will be thousands of Ricky fans there for the Pacqiou fight, and a lot of them will likely pick up tickets for Mathew - Judah, so its a golden oportunity for someone like Mathew and team Hatton to milk.
If its not Mathew, then who, and why? Maybe he could be trying to goad Ricky into a fight, but i cannot see Hatton being interested in Judah, not now! But, if Judah obliterates Mathew, perhaps Ricky will want a piece of him after? It would sell then, certainly to the UK fans anyway.

I thought Judah was going to dance with Nate Campbell....Matt HAtton makes sense though and would be semi-marketable

I heard that Judah didnt wana leave 140 again though. At 1st when i see they were talking to a british fighter i thought it could have been Ashley Theophane because they almost fought on the Calzaghe vs Jones undercard, but Theophane has a few fights coming up plus he's from london.

Theopane a good shout but he gave Judah a serious dissing when their fight collapsed called him allsorts. Not sure if Judah would want to give him a shot. Theopane's a LWW, weightwise it would more likely be Matthew HAtton, they could bill him as a (IBO) world champion too, assuming Ted Bami doesn't knock him out in a few weeks.
I could see Hattons wanting to let little brother top a bill in America, maybe they would feel like Judah, who's kicking on a bit now, would be the safest option. But it still sounds too dangerous to me. Matt Hatton is a very protected fighter I don't see anything changing.
Plus I think they wouldn't want to disrupt Ricky's preparations by putting Matthew in with a "live" threat.

I can't imagine it would be good preperation for Ricky to see his bro battered by Judah. Having said that, what do I know - I thought the same when he fought Ben Tackie

The only other name to throw in the mix is David Barnes

I was just about to mention him myself, although I do think Matthew is the front runner. As someone has said it would be taking advantage of the massive Hatton fans in town that weekend.

I agree, plus he recently fought over there against Tackie and a few others. I suppose it would be a good fight for Judah 'cause he might try and get a fight against Ricky if he beats Matt

Didn't he turn down a fight with Ashley Theophane, I'm sure Ashley would jump at the chance...

Yes. It was scheduled for the Calzaghe undercard.

I would imagine Barnes is less of a threat than Matthew Hatton, and is a natural 140 lb. fighter. I don't think Matthew could make 140, and Judah has said he's not fighting at 147 anymore.

Barnes, Mark Thompson or Watson if Mancunian.
Seems ambitious a 7500 arena. When Hennessy did a MGM ballroom card with Golden Boy on the eve of Hatton-Mayweather (I think that was the fight) the place was empty.
There is also a Hard Rock Hotel show on May 2 possibly Romanov v Guzman if Juan's suspension in Mississippi is sorted

That would be brilliant, i think i'd watch that one even if it was on the same time as Hatton - Pacman!

haha I hear ya.
mind you I think by the time Judah put paid to Gomez you could flick over just in time to see Pacman put paid to Hatton.
As regards Matthew Hatton I think he must have acquired a few more fans since I saw him 5 year ago already in his 15th or so pro fight at the MEN arena. He had no fans, even the BN hadn't arrived. Well he had Warren sat ringside trying to gee him up but I don't think he's a fan no more. Most of Ricky Hattons fans would be on the pop, the tables the slots the brothels bars stripjoints etc..etc..
