Branco postponed the Euro title fight again!

3rd time this fight has bee delayed.

Should Witter just jump ship now and join Hayemaker? He is way too inactive.

He should join Maloney, he needs to be fighting more than twice a year if he wants any chance of regaining a world title

Believe its the Italians who postponed.
Not a lot Witter's team could do about that.

Witter had his best time with Hennesy sports. Euro and World title holder and was involved in a world title fight live on ITV 1. If he gets by Branco a fight i doubt will happen there could be a title shot against Branco or the winner of Bradley - Holt, so not all is lost.

That will never happen.

I thought Witter was holding out for Devon Alexander for some kind of interim title and that Branco was only a failsafe if that fell through? Although I guess its possible that it already has fell through and I just didn't notice, anyone else hear anything about that?

But yes, I agree that Witter needs to be more active, maybe he should take some domestic fights if there's nothing else out there for him. As far as Hayemaker goes, would they be interested in signing someone who doesn't have a particularly exciting style and has no fanbase? Hayemaker seem to be going for mostly younger, aggressive fighters.

Witer's one enemey is himself and his lack of profile. I think his website gets updated once every 3 years. AT the end of the day I always say, you get out of life what you put in, if the guy can;t be arsed promoting himself then he can;t be surprised when people aren't queueing at his door offering him fights. The way Ricky Hatton built his profile in this country is an example to any boxer about how to do it, but I guess it also requires a personality and a sense of humour, 2 things which Witter seems to lack.

Ricky has Farnell Brodie etc to thank for his fan base and the manchester fight scene from what have heard, yes he fought often- but the fans were there already.

Witter has not been promoted well imo, some of it is his fault but he is just tooooo inactive.

Branco is a disgrace to boxing and should be stripped of his European title.

How many times can he be allowed to get away with this nonsense?

Witter should just ride into the sunset. MH doesnt seem to deliver him the fights and considering what he is working with I dont blame him. He needs to save some of the £5m for more meaningful fights in his stable.

If only that Vivian Harris fight was in America on somehting like ESPN. Assuming he replicates the performance imagine the profile boost

In saying that he had an excellent chance to boost his profile against a game, strong, but ultimately basic Tim Bradley on ITV 3 weeks before Hatton fought 'THCP' and he fluffed his lines

Even so he's way too inactive, he just hangs around waiting for the dream fights to arrive rather than just keeping busy and getting paid for it and THAT is down to Hennessy.

Junior's not the easiest to promote do you think others will do better with him? I can't see it, Hennessy has done wonders for Juniors career since signing him, European and World titles (British or was that with FW)

Witter lost the world title all by himself... Mick got him onto ITV prime time to defend it against a legit opponent.

Now suddenly it's all Hennessy's fault and that Hayemaker will answer his prayers?

Its boils down to luck - or lack of it - is the reason Witter is where he is.

Pre-Bradley he had tremendous momentum for a Hatton fight, but then his father became ill and he was unfocused and got beat. He is certainly good enough to get his belt back, but fighting nobodies and fringe players 'regularly' is not going to help his cause. If he wins the European title he gets a great ranking again and can press on from there.

Witter has been inactive. If joining Hayemaker or any other promoter would make him more active, then its adviseable to jump ship & go elsewhere.

However, Hennessey & Witter have been together for quite sometime now so the relationship must be a good one. Can't see Junior going elsewhere to be honest!

The problem is, Witter just isn't enough of a draw to headline shows, so he's not really attractive to promoters. Good main support to have, if you've got a T.V. date, mind. Hennessey should be getting him out more regularly, even if it's 8 rounders for peanuts. Inactivity is ruining him, it's worth ticking over for shite cash, just so you can be ready when an opportunity comes. He hasn't got the luxury of picking and choosing.

I would agree Hatton got bumped up nicely when younger by Warren and did well out of the Manchester scene, but that's not really the reason he's popular. He's popular firstly cos he's an exciting fighter to watch, then because he's a great guy.

He's been doing his after-dinner stuff for god knows how many years picking up fans a few hundred at a time at these dinners. YOu tell me someone who hasnt gone to one of those dinners and come away thinking, Ricky Hatton, what a funny down to earth guy, I'll watch him next time he's on.

Ricky has also been on any number of programmes on smaller channels to boost his profile, in other words I'm saying he works his bollocks off on the promo side and realises what he has to do to get himself known.

Witter just doesn't have that common touch and doesn't seem to want to put in the effort on the promo side to actually promote himself. That's fine if he was a great fighter to watch but he aint, so he hasn;t really got much going for him.

I agree and said it in another thread Hennessey seems to really have fallen to the back of the pack in terms of the domestic promoters. Maloney, ok he doesn't have massive resources to play with but he seems to absolutely work his bollocks off for his fighters and has been doin really well recently. That's all you can ask of a promoter, just to be on your side and be working to get you regular fights, a lot of Hennessey's fighters seem to be riddles by big spells of inactivity e.g. Witter, John Murray, Froch.

Witter's most meaningful fights have come with hennessy, but as pointed out, they've been too infrequent. His busiest spell came post-Judah with Warren, but the opposition wasn't that great. Still, that helped him build momentum and get some buzz going, even if he wasn't always the headliner. It just shows that if he's not choosy (which he shouldn't be at this stage), there's work out there for him.
