Fury claims Price isn’t Right for Pro Game

Unbeaten heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury has launched another scathing attack on his British rivals ahead of his fourth pro fight in Birmingham this weekend.

Fury who has enjoyed a hat trick of stoppage wins since turning pro late last year features on Saturday night’s Hennessy Sports event which is live on ITV4. Top of the bill at the Aston Arena sees Wayne Elcock defend his British Middleweight title against local rival Matthew Macklin.

Fury though is already looking to the future and the possibility of renewing rivalries with one time amateur foe David Price. The Liverpudlian won a Bronze medal in last years Olympics but Fury believes that he’s destined for failure in the pro game. Price is set to make his pro bow later this month but former amateur rival Fury says he’s wasting his time.

“How can you have any chance in the pros as a heavyweight if you don’t have a chin?” questioned the outspoken 20-year-old. “Every time you hit him he’s on the floor and that was in the amateurs, imagine what he’s going to be like in the pro’s with no headguard and smaller gloves.

“I fought him when I was 17 and had just 10 amateur bouts total,” recalled Fury. “He was a double ABA champ and Commonwealth Gold medallist at the time. I put him down in the second round with an overhand right and it wasn’t even that good a shot. He got up and held on for dear life for the rest of the fight and got it on points.

“I sparred him after that and had him in all kinds of trouble straight away. They stopped the spar after a minute and they never let me spar him again. I believe that he was their golden boy and the amateurs were protecting him for the Olympics but it meant I didn’t get a fair crack at qualifying.”

Fury though believes that having got a head start on Price in the professional ranks their paths are unlikely to cross again. “The pros is a different ball game. In the amateurs he only had to avoid getting tagged on the chin for 4 two minute rounds and he couldn’t even manage that a lot of the time.

“In the pros the rounds are longer and the distances are longer so he’s no chance. I’d love to fight him because it’d be lights out as soon as I hit him but he won’t get as far as a fight with me, someone else will spark him out before then. He’s going to find out pretty quick that a decent chin is a lot more useful than a bronze medal in the pros.”

Alongside Fury the undercard for “The Battle of Brum” at the Aston Arena features Adnan Amar defending his English Welterweight title against Tom Glover. Well although i don't think its great to slag everyone off, i do think he has a fair point about Price.
He has shown he can be badly hurt in the amatuers, and at heavyweight there are bigger punchers in the pro game.

Price should have been a career Amatuer, i really cannot see him reaching British Title level

Reading things like this is making me hate Fury... but then again Fury might not even know what's 'he's said'.

I agree that he knows his way around a ring very well, has a nice range of punches on him, and a strong right hand, but he has been hurt and decked during his amateur career. Just think he may find the pro's harder once out of the early easy going bouts.

Price would of done the same job that Fury has done on his first 3 opponents. I'm not quite sure why Fury is getting so worked up over Price if he doesn't rate him. Fury did lose to him fairly in the amateurs, maybe its a case of calling robbery long after the event, so people think its true.

I don't mind seeing any new heavyweight go pro, as its always an extra interest. Hope Price goes on to prove me wrong.

i dont know much about his amatuer career apart from the Price fight and that he did well in a few Junior events. would you be so kind to share your knowledge of about Tyson the amatuer kind sir

Just saying that Price did beat him fairly , Fury put in a good display for a guy who was so inexperienced at the time.

Price had to take a count when he fought Fury, but then kept Fury on the end of long jabs and straight rights, Fury was only 17 at the time and it was around his 9th senior fight, so was a very good display for him really

I wonder who Fury is going to get next?
I wouldn't mind seeing him in with Zack Page, the guy is very durable, if Fury wants to make a show then the american would be ideal, he's just been the distance with Sprott and Mike Perez on these shores.

Disagree with you lot crying cos Fury has criticised Price. He's got more right to say stuff like that than the likes of you. He has an opinion, no problem with that. He's confident, which is essential. And he is probably right about price.

It makes me laugh that some of you say that his comments make you hate him or want to see him lose :-) This is boxing. He's a fighter, stepping in the ring. He is also an individual who can say what he wants.

Of course he can say what he wants, but that will likely determine whether or not people like him. From what I've seen of him on TV, this trash talking doesn't suit him, and I doubt it even comes from him. If he acts like a prick people are going to call him a prick.
