Magee forced to give up title12 March 2009 - By Mark Doyle
Brian Magee has been stripped of his British super-middleweight title after being forced to pull out of his scheduled defence against Tony Dodson on March 28.

Magee, who claimed the belt with an eighth-round knockout of Stevie McGuire last December, has been sidelined with a back injury sustained in training.

As a result, Dodson will now take on fellow Liverpudlian Tony Quigley for the vacant title.

Quigley had already been scheduled to fight on the bill, against English champion Paul David.

Why he do that?

He must have an opportunity coming then... as that title is an earner.

You need to see the official line from the Board.
He relinquished the title.
In addition the winner of Dodson v Quigley must waive grace and defend when ordered to do so.
I read into that that Magee will get a chance against the winner.

FFS Not another fight off on the Haye-maker bill. Definitely not going now! Good thing I put off buying my tickets. Feel sorry for the Hayemaker team though but thats boxing. Good opportunity for Dodson though - Quigley is an easier fight than Magee or so you would have thought.

He relinquished. Heard off his trainer that there might be a problem a couple of days ago but they're still looking into a Euro shot at Murat. Pat Magee is lobbying the EBU.

Dodson pulled out of 2 English title fights with Paul David and gets a British shot.
David set to defend against Quigley who then gets a British shot.

David has been hard done by.
Is he still on the show ?

Exactly. There is an English champion on the bill, so they give a British title fight to.... his challenger.

Must be keen to sell the "local Derby" angle.

To be fair he is injured - and throughout his career hes had numerous people pulling out on him, I remember this one time at band camp - a certain joe calzaghe pulled out on the MORNING of a fight with magee to a sold out king hall.

Now THATS why British boxing is a load of shit.

Why isn't Paul David fighting I thouht the English champion had some kind of right to a shot at the british title.

No mate, the Mandatory challenger has the right to fight for the title.
Dodson was Magee's mandatory.

As long as its deemed by the board as satisfactory, and a competative fight yes.
If the mandatory isn't due you can choose someone - it has to be passed. But then u have to make the mandatory when its due.
