Frank probably knew Cook was likely to get beat and would of expected it.
The Enzo win will be a big dent, but Warren would certainly take Enzo losing like that and Amir winning the way he did over the other way round.

Don't forget that allegedly is Matthew Macklin's promoter so that was a major win for Warren tonight.
He's got another fighter in which he can sell Friday Fight Night shows and showcase his prospects on the undercard.
Macklin will sell well in Birmingham aswell.

Macklin - Elcock : I thought Macklin looked terrific. A dominant display with a brutally clinical finish. If your in trouble Macklin won't let you off the hook. Thought Elcock's post fight interview was embarrassingly deluded. Banging on about how the gameplan never worked in a fight that lasted about 7minutes. He got totally owned from the get-go and if they fought 100 times Macklin would most likely take him every time. At 35 with two brutal knockout losses in 3 fights Elcock should retire. Meanwhile Macklin-Barker should be a barnstormer.

Cook-Martinez: It sort of always looked like mission impossible for Cook. He beat a weight drained Alex Arthur on what looked like it would be just one great night. Cook was always way out of his depth against a guy who looks the divisions best outside of Humberto Soto now that JMM, Guzman and Valero have all migrated to Lightweight. No point in Cook returning to domestic level as he'll never fight Kevin Mitchell and John Murray is too strong for him at Lightweight. I hope he hangs them up.

Pryce-Hall: Bradley's had an amazingly successful run as the Commonwealth champion. I thought progressively though he was fighting too arrogantly in his defences. Hands down and too willing to stand in the firing line believing he can bomb every one out. Pryce is strong but not that strong and when put up against a ruthless puncher like Hall he paid the price. I mean Hall was really clinical tonight. Him and Macklin must be eating the same cereal. Would like to see Pryce retire now. Hall against the winner of Rhodes-Small would be an excellent match-up.

Maccarinelli-Afolabi: Oh dear. All that bullshit Buncey has been blowing up Macca's arse recently looks sort of laughable now. Maccarinelli is not the horrifically vicious puncher he's made out to be. Sure when it comes to Bruce Scott, Bobby Gunn, Mathew Ellis, Rich LaMontage et al then Enzo looks like a monster. But outside of that huge uppercut against the faded and much smaller Dominguez Enzo has never shown devestating capabilities at world level. He beat up on Wayne Braithwaite for 12 rounds without so much as a knockdown. Never got a chance against Haye and looked ineffective against the Nigerian tonight. It was another highlight reel knockout defeat. Macca ran out of ideas, looked vulnerable when hit and ultimately gassed. Bunce's talk of Macca bashing up the likes of Adamek look ludicrous now. You obviously can't teach an old dog new tricks because Enzo hasn't change done bit and is and will always make the same mistakes. There was an air about the underdog's camp as if they knew they would win. And they did.

Abrahams-Simon: Bad performance. Don't know if its weight issues or frustration at the tedium of such pointless defences but on that evidence Abrahams will get dominated by Pavlik.

Khan-Barrera: Khan's size advantages were overwhelming. The headbutt produced an horrendous injury. Any other fight and it would have been stopped. Sky, Warren etc are all kidding themselves on. Sure Khan looked good against a badly injured, partially blinded, undersized, faded veteran. I still see absolutely nothing to suggest Khan gets anything other than his arse handed to him by JMM, Juan Diaz, Joan Guzman or Edwin Valero. Even the likes of Michael Katsidis and Joel Casamayor look too strong and why is there no mention of Breidis Prescott? Its a case of lets just pretend he doesn't exist. Just like John Murray and Jon Thaxton. A 5 rounds technical decision over Barrera due to a an accidental headbutt will be the highlight of Amir's career!


All in all a pretty tip-top night of boxing. Can't remember when we got so many jaw dropping knockouts.

Good summary, Khan will get sparked clean out again soon as he gets in with someone the same size as himself, just because he held his hands a bit higher for 5 rnds doesn't mean he's become a world beater overnight.

Best display of the night by far, Hall has always had massive 1 punch power, he now has the skills to go with it. He is exciting to watch and will go further than domestic class.

I didn't at any time say that. Like I said Cook won't fight Kevin Mitchell for the domestic belts and Mitchell is showing no signs up stepping up soon. At world level Cook just got massacred and isn't likely to be at the top of other world title holders future opponents lists. Elcock is 35, has achieved all that he's going to achieve and has been brutally (and both were brutal) knocked out in 2 of his last 3. What else can he do? Where are the worthwhile paydays and fights?
Pryce enjoyed an Indian summer in his career. If he'd won on Saturday he could have set up a big money clash with the Rhodes-Small winner. But he didn't win. No he got viciously knocked out. What else is there for him? He has no where to go.
When a fighters best days are behind him I like to see them set off into the sunset. Especially after they have just been poleaxed in front of a national TV audience. But unfortunately there are fight fans out there who are happy to see faded veterans assume a stepping stone role for which sees them getting bashed up by much younger fighters for peanuts. I have no desire to see any of them end up punchy or wasting away for nothing when they could be getting on with their lives and savouring the victories they did have.

A fight with Barker would be interesting. I had the least problem with you talking about Elcock retiring, as at least he is old and will struggle to regain a title, but he can still get opportunities if he wants them.

Why would any of them have to assume the role of stepping stone after only just losing their titles? They are all amongst the best fighters in their respective divisions, and are all still domestic or above contenders in those divisions.

1) I can't see Mitchell stepping up to world level any time soon. For a start he's been too inactive. He should be targeting the European title. Cook vs Burns would be a competitive fight. However after winning a world title can you really see Cook being up for a challenge at a Commonwealth belt on a small hall show for decent but no better? Nicky got murdered on Saturday night. Lets make no bones about it. I don't know of many world champions who have returned to British or Commonwealth title domestic scene after losing their belts. The manner in which he got taken apart disturbed me. His opponent was not a vaunted puncher but he cut Nicky in half. If I was him, looking back over my achievements I would be pretty satisfied with what I've achieved and wouldn't want to drop down to a level I'd already conquered.

-2) With Elcock again he's 35 and has been brutally knocked out twice in his last 3. He would have to get back in line and it would be about a year before he was due a shot again. He's never going to beat Macklin or Barker. By continuing he will assume a stepping stone role. To be honest he was never that great in the first place.

-3) Pryce was totally taken out by Hall. I mean it was vicious. He's been a fighter for 10 years and been involved in a lot of brawls. I can't see him coming back from that defeat in any major way and like I said the only major pay day left was the fight against the Rhodes-Small winner. That's not going to happen now and they're not going to wait for him to come back and win 2-3 comeback fights.
Getting beat is one thing but the manner of Pryce's defeat is what has led me to believe his time at the top is over. Like I said previously I always believed he was on borrowed time with the way he fights. The hands down 'hit me' style did give him a level of success but it all came crumbling down on Saturday.

If I was Cook I would want to drop down a level and try to rebuild. Perhaps, this is why we disagree about his theoretical retirement.

If Small beats Rhodes, then I am sure he wouldn't mind attempting to avenge his defeat against Pryce, perhaps as his second or third title defence. If Rhodes wins then he may well vacate the title in order to target a World title shot, which would leave Pryce as a leading contender to fight for the vacant belt.

You seem to be suggesting that they should retire because you assume they will have a negative attitude if they continue to fight. I guess that is fair enough, as a lot of British fighters seem to have a problem dropping down a level when they have been at the top.

I on the other hand would like to encourage fighters not to be so uppity, and to not waste their talent and opportunities just because they have suffered a setback in their career. I would like to see them give it another go as I can see clear ways back to title level for them within 12 months, although I doubt they still have the heart to follow that route.
