Froch flys the flag for Great Britain

Carl Froch stands alone as Britain’s sole World boxing champion and the WBC Super Middleweight title holder doesn’t plan on giving up that status any time soon. The Cobra makes the first defence of his title next month when he travels to the U.S. for a mega fight with former undisputed middleweight champ, Jermain Taylor.

Froch's April 25th date at The Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut is seen as a risky assignment by many but Froch says he’s in the business of taking calculated risks. “Winning the World title at home in Nottingham was the proudest moment of my career but there’s no point staying at home and defending your title against nondescript challengers. You need to step out of your comfort zone and I really want to lay down a marker in the sport by taking on and beating the best.

“With the greatest respect to some of the other British guys who’ve held titles recently not many people outside of their own homes would have considered them genuine world champions. Being the World Champ is about being the very best in your weight division and taking on all comers to prove that. That’s why I’m putting it all on the line and going to the States to take on Taylor. It’s all about making a statement and proving to people that I am the best super middleweight on the planet.”

Froch says that winning a world title has actually increased and not diminished his hunger for success. “When some people win a world title they start thinking they’ve made it and start looking for a cash out payday. They lose that edge but I’m hungrier than ever right now. I’ve worked my whole career to get to this point and now that I’ve become a World Champion I just want to push on and prove beyond doubt that I’m one of the best out there pound for pound.”

Froch is certainly in no doubt that the famous green WBC belt will be returning home to Nottingham with him after his fight with Taylor. “Jermain’s a very good fighter, you don’t unify the middleweight titles and beat Bernard Hopkins twice without being a good fighter but I simply believe I’m the better man and deep down he knows that too, that’s why he had to be forced into taking the fight.

“He’s talking about going to war and shutting me up but lets face it does he really want to get into the trenches with someone like me? He’s going to find out very quickly in there that I can walk the walk as well as talking the talk because this is a major showcase for me to put the World on notice just what I’m all about.

It's impossible to fault Carls 'please the fans' attitude

I can't wait to watch Froch stalk and hunt Taylor down in the second half of the fight. Looking forward to seeingh what odds I'm gonna get on Froch by KO

COME ON FROCHY!!!

Like fcuk he should've backed down, Froch was bang on with everything he said about Joe.

Carl's showing JC how a new World champion should act

he has come across extremely bitter about it, his comments were childish, not really how a 'new world champion should act'

he himself must know he wasnt a financially viable option to joe, and the things he said was pathetic.
he's got such a smug arrogant way about him.

he's nearly worse than junior witter.

love to see kessler come over here and box his head off at the city ground.

i don't even rule out taylor beating him.

although i make froch favourite cos of his better stamina.

taylor will give him issues though. :>

Best of luck for Froch. Fair play to him going to the states for his first defence, I'm just hoping we get it live on itv1 or Sky Sports and he brings the belt back.

But one thing about that press release. I think the majority of people about (especially on the street) would consider Ricky Hatton a world champion at the moment as well. For me the IBO are as credible, if not more so than the WBO at the moment and should be given official status (if such a thing exists) as a world title.

if the sanctioning bodies wanna keep stripping ricky then that's there beef.

all froch really did against pascal was prove he's world top 10 material.

feed him to andre dirrell.

Like froch as a boxer .His comments on Calzghe were just uncalled for.
him going on about he should have fought me .hes ducking me etc..
joe said that he wanted big figths not fight the like of froch. which is far enough when u are gonna retire after Jones Jnr.
we will see how he copes with taylor then.

Joe Calzaghe was a fraud for years and there is no getting away from that, Froch was a much tougher fight than hopkins or rjj and he would of mde a couple of million so i don't understand his not worth it stance. Complete bullshit.

whatever. froch gets asked about the same guy every time. he's fighting taylor and he gets asked about joe etc. i felt buncey was spot on when he was disappointed in joe's comments re froch's win over pascal. joe - sports personality, pound for pounder, apparent modern great - should be secure with his accomplishments yet slags off froch's exciting win, vs an opponent who would have been one of joe's few credible title defences.

if froch beats taylor, he has gone after a big name and pretty much shamed calzaghe who did little for years on the world scene.

that isnt true at all. hopkins would take froch to school then and now
froch doesn't have the experience for that kind of fight, and if/when he does, hopkins will be retired. calzaghe hardly looked good v hopkins and got it at the right time.

Froch would of been as easy as Lacy, Froch's style poses no threat to Joe at all.

Taylor's looking confident since moving up to 12st and his jab alone will beat Froch.

Froch was the leading Supermiddle contender in the country. It made perfect sense for him to call out Calzaghe. Eubank called out Benn when he was on the way up and Calzaghe called out Collins. It's what an aspiring challenger should do. Calzaghe may be retired now but it wouldn't be unheard of for a fighter to come out of retirement. Froch will continue to be a thorn in Calzaghe's side and I see nothing wrong in that.

The thing is if Froch beats Taylor then he has a genuine bargaining tool for Calzaghe, right now imo he doesnt have much of a case and I am a Froch fan. But if he does beat Taylor (and be under no illusions this is his toughest fight) then he can call Joe out and ridicule his victory over Bernard Hopkins and say he beat someone who beat Hopkins twice, that may rile Calzaghe quite a bit.

I slightly favour Taylor. Only slightly though. My heart is backing Froch 100%. I'm proud that he's going to America to fight a big name so quickly.

The way i see it is that calzaghe is the thorn in frochs side,he's clearly very bitter and needs to concentrate on Taylor not Joe.I watched froch on tv before the khan barrera fight and he was asked who he thought would win,all he could say was that he compares the fight to the Calzaghe vs Jones fight.Nobody mentioned Calzaghe, but that was the first thing he could think of,he bores me every time he opens his mouth.

I'm sure if Froch beats Taylor and moves on to the Butes and the Kesslers he will be mentioning Calzaghe less and less.

That's it exactly! He doesn't need Calzaghe to have a great career.

I've got Taylor in this fight.

Froch was just there for the hitting against Pascal.

Taylor will hit him harder and more often.

Plus Froch will be weaker from flying to the US - I bet he flys out 2 weeks or less before the fight, which is not enough to acclimatise.

Good luck Carl, but Taylor by late KO.

:TU: i mean hopkins took pavlik to skool though. that was one hell of a match though. i cant see froch wining against hopkins or Taylor.
