Celestino Caballero is the super champ or some such nonsence..
Its doesnt take anything away from Dunne's fantastic performance but it is an anomoloy I would like to see cleared up with Dunne facing Caballero in his next fight.

I think Dunne deserves a few pay days defending his belt in his home town (like steve molitor) before facing a beast.

Bernard Dunne beat a proven world class fighter in a memorable up and down brawl with the WBA championshipp belt on the line - he deserves all the credit in the world for what he achieved tonight; in the process proving many doubters (myself included), wrong.
No one outside of the RTE commentary team is proclaiming Dunne the best boxer in the world but Dunne and his supporters can be rightlyfully proud of a fantastic performance and victory tonight against a dangerous, world class foe.
Good on ya Bernard - you showed the heart, fitness, skill, self belief and determination levels that many of our domestic fighters could learn from. Much like Carl Froch in his 'gut check' against Pascal, Dunne really showed the boxing world what he is all about tonight.
No longer will Dunne be defined by the Martinez blow out - tonight put that fight firmly into perspective

Thoughts on Dunne

OK he won the WBA regular super bantamweight title. Beat a world class opponent, in a great fight. Well bloody done.
I wonder what will happen with Munroe - will Dunne snub him, or will it happen? Somehow I can't quite see ppl saying, "he needs to fight Rendall Munroe", after last night. No offence.
Will Dunne be drawing big crowds vs less-than-world-class comp, or will his sensational win get him on US TV v big names. Or, will he be matched with care and caution, before bringing in BIG NAME "at the right time"?
My main response to Dunne's win is that, like Haye, he's overcome his vulnerabilities, found a way to survive and get a hard win. Impressive work.
Does Dunne need to fight Caballero before calling himself world champ? Caballero is WBA super champ.

Although it was a great win for Dunne in all honesty I don't think he can call himself a world champion unless he beats Caballero. The WBA "regular" title means nothing IMO - its just a ridiculous way for the WBA to get more sanctioning fees. The Dunne team took a massive gamble and it paid off but I feel his promoter/team will want to build on this win with a few defences of the title before taking the plunge with someone like Caballero, Juanma or Vasquez. Caballero is beatable but I don't think Dunne is the man to do it despite Cordoba having beat Caballero a few years back. I think Caballero is horrible match-up for Dunne. He should savour this fight and milk the title for all its worth.
I like Dunne and have massive respect for what he's accomplished but IMO he'll get beat by the very top boys of the division who are bigger punchers than Cordoba.

You are a joke, I wonder if you would be singing the same tune if Munroe had won that title, I don't think so!
You are a bitter little man!

Fantastic win for Dunne, he proved me wrong but he holds a strap in a packed division. No offence and I'm not trying to be nasty here but if Dunne were to face somebody like Juan Manuel Lopez he would literally be blown away with devastating ease. Dunne has a lot of heart but awful defence. Anyway let him enjoy his moment of glory after a great fight.

Silly bugger. I just gave Dunne props for surviivng knockdowns and winning a great fight. And said that ppl will hardly be saying that Dunne has to fight Munroe now. I'm just saying he's not a proper world champion.
I don't even watch Rendall Munroe fights - so why would I want him to win the title?
The fact is Dunne is half of a world champion. Don't get emotional. Caballero also won the WBA title this way. He won the regular belt, then he knocked out the full WBA beltholder in Thailand.

I'm not too worried on the belt but it was a fantastic atmosphere and a cracking fight with 6 knockdowns!! Report up later on BBN. Didn't get back to Befast until 5am...anyone hear if Cordoba is okay?? He was stretchered out of the ring to hospital.

Screw Munroe. He should get in line. Munroe and Maloney were happy to sit there all smug and tell the world that Dunne had made a mistake and was going to get smashed to bits. Well, look what happened. That's how it goes when you take a risk from time to time. Maloney pretty much admitted on the Bunce hour that he bottled it when the fight was offered to Munroe. He didn't expect his man to win.
Anyway, on that form Dunne takes Munroe apart.
Well done to the little Irishman! He battled superbly all night.

Bernard Dunne has just sprung a big upset to beat Ricardo Cordoba, but he isn't a world champion.
Dunne v Cordoba was really just an eliminator, that's all.
The WBA are thieves and don't give a shit about the credibility of boxing. The just want the sanctioning fee.
Thailand's Poonsawat Kratingdaengym won an eliminator against Somsak Sithchatchawal (former WBA champ) last year to earn the mandatory position to Cabellero (who took the belt off Somsak).
Then the WBA invented a bullshit interim title and super title to favour Cordoba while Poonsawat was frozen out.
What do mandatory positions mean any more? Nothing it seems.
When Cordoba was given the fake WBA belt, the WBA said Poonsawat could contest the ''vacant interim'' belt in Thailand but his management told them to fk off.
Dunne has a good win on his record but he is not a champion.....seeing as this is a board for knowledgable fans then hopefully no-one will refer to him as such.

Whereas in this case, it's Dunne regular champ, and Caballero super champ. Similar circumstances i.e. an organisation having two "champs" but thanks for the distinction.
Massive result from Dunne, to knock this guy out Cordoba. I'm sure the belt he has will ensure plenty of big nights in Ireland. Hopefulyl one day we can call Dunne a world champ proper, as he is a talented and exciting fighter.

won't Dunne need a Euro level world title fight or 2, to grow into the title?

Where was this post about Ricardo Cordoba before Dunne took his title from him. Bernard Dunne is a world champion and you are a dickhead of the highest order!
