What punishment would you give Margarito and his trainer?

If it's proven that Margarito and his trainer added something illegal to his wraps, which is looking highly likely, what punishment should be imposed on them?

I think that the trainer shoul have a life ban and Margarito fined and banned for 5 years , which effectively is a life ban

Has it really been proven? All the articles and Cali commisions do seem to do is talk and not show anything solid.

If it is proven then a life ban.
There are no excuses, this isn't about someone winning a bit of money in dodgy bets, it could of cost Mosley his life or serious injury.

I don't believe anything was truly up with the gloves/loading. If Margarito really was loading those gloves it would take less than 1000punches and outweighing his opponent by 10lbs to do some actual damage to them

I think they tried to use dried gauze that would stick better to protect the hands but they unwittingly broken the rules in the process

BTW Steroids/EPO such as Mosley used is possibly as bad as loading gloves anyway

I'm no Margo fan but this is being spun out of proportion when you actually look at the facts it doesn't stack up.

Couple of fair points there , but 2 wrongs don't make a right, i'd agree Mosley should of had a longer punishment as well, but i still think that if its proved that Margarito knowingly had his hand wraps tampered with he deserves to get banned

BAN MARGARITO FOR LIFE

I hope any promoters out there won't touch Margarito with a barge pole. Disgrace. Like the Collins vs Resto all over again but hopefully Cotto comes back from it. I know Margarito is a tough bastard but he was like superman in that fight and his victory is now worthless. Dreadful and he/trainer(s) who know what they did have no place in the sport!

Margarito shouldn't be punished any further unless the report says he was involved in some way before the day of the fight.

His trainer; ban for life.

Also another report should be made for the Cotto fight aswell but since that was in Nevada, I'd say that is being done.

Now, hang on a second. They have found sulphur and calcium, two of the main ingredients of plaster of paris, on the wraps.

At the time, two 'pads' were found in the wraps, still damp and with white specks found suspended in the liquid.

Now, you may discredit the eye witness reports, but the tests which found the sulphur and calcium were done by a US Department of Justice lab, and, when comibined with the eye-witness reports, would seem to me fairly conclusive.

I'm open to suggestions as to how, P-N, those same results can be caused by "dry gauze".

What is being spun out of proportion is that the seeming acceptance that he had been loading for some time, and certainly for Cotto.

That's absurd.

Clearly, loading for the Mosley fight casts doubt on his previous performances, but there is no proof whatsoever, and it's not like Cotto has never been hurt before. I find it bizarre that it has almost passed as a 'fact' that Margarito was loading for Cotto. There isn't even any circumstantial evidence to suggest such.

Yes, Mosley and whoever else has used steroids should be dealt with more severely. Steroids use is pretty much brushed under the carpet in boxing and could be just as dangerous as loaded wraps.

BUT when weighing up a suitable punishment, you have to consider this:

Truthfully or not, a boxer can claim to have taken a banned substance unwittingly, for example in a supplement or medicine. They could be (and probably, in most cases, are) lying, but it's a plausible excuse. But there is no possible innocent explanation or claim of ignorance for adding a hardening substance to handwraps.

I echo your sentiments and I cannot believe more fuss is not being made of it, I think because he got a shellacking from Mosley, its been downgraded as stupid rather than criminal which it was.

Think about it for a minute, someone as big and strong as Mosley would have gone the full 12 rounds and taken stick from loaded gloves, every punch from about round six onwards would have seemed like being hit with concrete, (it would have been). We could now have been looking at some sort of damage to Mosley or possibly, god forbid, even worse.

Remember Cotto said afterwards in private that he could not believe Margarito's punches hurt him so much, that was what broke the man in the ring, he suddently doubted himself due to everything hurting and feeling so different to normal.

Its only because Mosley won that this is being played down, ban the f***** for life and the guys around him, don't kid me they did not know.

He is a disgrace to every man that steps in the ring

I think more fuss would be made of it if it was another sport. Boxing is just such a dirty sport anyway, nobody cares. Mosley himself shouldn't be boxing after the balco thing. Steroids are just as bad as loaded gloves, because they aid fighters in being able to fight at a higher level than otherwise possible. In effect that means they can dish out more punishment and inflict more damage.

There is no proof that the gloves were loaded against Cotto, but common sense will tell you that there is a good chance they were. Especially when you consider the fact that one of Margarito's gloves was already on when Nazim Richardson saw the illegal wrapping against Mosley. The guy actually hired to watch the hands being wrapped missed it. That's very worrying in itself. Wtf was he doing?
