i think that ref is the worst ive ever seen been there and now can count 4 fights ive watched wghere he has been ref an all bad decisions

From where I was sitting, saw some errors.

Matthews stoppage looked premature.
Samuels, I agree, seemed fit to fight on.
In the Price fight Price lost his gumshield, and dropped his guard and turned away- Ingleby hit him! although who was actually at fault here?
In the 12th round Dodson was not fit to continute after the second knockdown, the referee seemed to help him up a bit!

yer i agree there, price shudnt of dropped hgis hands and stood there, protect yourself at all times is the golden rule, least his chin got tested hHA

I think he was assuming that when he lost his gumshield (second time) that all would immediatly stop to let him put it back in, rather than waiting for the ref to call a halt.

mike alexander he got stick all night he sholdnt b able top ref again mathews was perfectly fine to continue and groves was going to win but would of been nice to see him finish samuels off properly. was funny seeing samuels doing jumping jacks to the ref

Samuels had been dropped heavily and was getting caught flush from the start, it was very one sided

Thought it a poor stoppage from Michael Alexander, he looked like an amateur ref in there.

It was only going end one way by the looks of it but was definitely a premature stoppage - Samuels was fine. I like the looks of Groves though - and taking Samuels in only your third professional fight takes some intestinal fortitude!

Will anything come of this ref who stopped the Matthews fight?

Will he be under review?

I know footie ref's are frustrating, but these decisions can make serious impacts on a boxer's career.

It looked premature but I can see why he stopped it, he was getting hit hard and often.

Look forward to following Groves that's a good win to take out someone like Samuels in a round. If it had gone one he would have stopped him in rounds 1 or 2 I feel.

I'd certainly rather see this fella fight rather than the big mouth.

Boxers performances are held strictly to account by the board, refs are in an ivory tower.
The people with real power are the promoters who can veto refs on their shows

If you think that stoppage was bad watch Thomas Mcdonagh vs Max Maxwell on the Hatton bill this weekend makes that one look very Ray mercer vs Tommy morrison in comparison.

the Matthews stoppage was unbelievable. It seemed the referee's count and the announcers count were not in unison. could that have had an impact????

The ref did call a halt. Watch the fight again and you can clearly hear the referee shout "stop boxing" before Ingleby hits Price.

Ah , OK. It's hard to tell from where I was sitting. In which case, why not disqualify him?

Price and Ingleby should have been stopped straight after Ingleby got floored with that shot because there wasn't a chance he was going to make the count.

Well, its hard to tell- here is the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKS4Rh60jlI However, what is certain is that Price drops his hands BEFORE the ref says anything.

the only thing wrong with that entire episode is, well 2 things actually:

these lads are concentrating on finding an opening and not getting knocked out - the ref therefore should not be addressing them from miles away and out of eyeline of the aggressor in this case, Ingleby, he should be closer, making his presence known and if at all possible getting an arm in there.
Ingleby did nothing wrong, reading the comments earlier I was expecting a significant time delay, it was thrown on the refs call, you can't really blame him.

and 2) - David shouldn't have let himself take a clean shot like that. It looks worse cos Price had his hands down at the time. There could have been an Alofabi style bomb in that (in theory).
Bit naive really of an Olympic boxer not having his hand on his chin, at any weight, let alone heavy.

It's the first time I've seen George Groves box. He looks relaxed, confident, fluid and skilful. He looks like he has a lot of potential.

The fight was stopped prematurely. Samuels wasn't taking too much punishment and his legs were sturdy.
