I don't know if there was any video footage of this floating around or not, but anyway- He was winning the first 3 rounds easily, in round four they traded some good punches, Derry was caught with a few, seemed to get close and then he went down in round four. Ref counted, and Derry got up but the ref waved it off. Apparantly he was set to get up at 4 , but his corner suggested he "took 8." He looked to get up at about 9.

He looked OK to me and ready to continue. Hard to tell from where I was sitting, but I wasn't sure even if it was a legit knockdown (rather than a slip/push.)

Derry's reaction was to (as it appeared from where I was sitting) spit at the ref or possibly spit out his gumshield, hard to say from where I was sitting, and storm out of the ring.

I can see a rematch, certainly.

At the end of the day Derry will know how he felt after that punch. If he felt fine, then he has been robbed by a very bad decision.

If he was really shaken/hurt by it then it is a different story.

Derry is devastated and has every right to be!! That ref MUGGED him!! I feel for him I really do cos he was winning everything up until the exchange!! I think Derry might have had enough after this to be honest!! He's a proud lad and wouldn't wanna do it unless he feels he can really get somewhere..

That Ref is a joke though!! :witzend:

He was quite a prospect a couple of eyars ago, i thought he'd go onto a higher lever than British, certainly European, but seems to have had a couple of defeats recently, one or two bad ones too. Shame really.

Three defeats, two by straight knockout, one by dubious stoppage.

Dude had some decent talent too, he schooled Foster like he was nothing and went a littl negative since.

I wouldn't say he went negative- his style is very forward and lively- he was winning against Lindsay and Harry, certainly. His problem might appear to be punch resistance.

Couldn't really tell properly from that, but it looked like an awful stoppage.

Yeah had it been Khan he would have been given every opportunity to carry on.

Was there a cock up with the counting? From where we saw it, he seemd to only get up at 9, but the video doesn't suggest that.

anyone half interested in boxing, whether a boxer or not, knows thats its too risky to get up at 8, 8 is fair enough but 9 is pushing it.

I didn't think that Mathews' chin was all that bad. Yes, he got hammered by Choi, and got took out by a beauty from Lyndsey. But is Mathews' chin that bad - that shot that knocked him over against this guy on Saturday didn't look like a big shot at all.

Didn't he get up from the Choi KD's 4 or 5 times before he could take no more? He certainly has heart anyway, not a glass but shaky chin.

That Ramagodi fight needs to be a no decision, the boards are too shitty to either change wrong decisions though even worldwide though.

In fairness to the ref if The fighter misjudges the count, the fault lies with the fighter
