Groves is planting his feet a lot more and the power is clearly showing. However, his defence still worries me.
Remember he was sparked by Travis Dickinson in the amateurs in the first round. Hopefully he will tighten up his defence a bit more. Other than that I'm really impressed with his progression.

His defence does look a little dodgy, but then again, when they guys you are fighting do not throw punches, it is difficult to judge how he would react under real fire.
he hits hard though and is aggressive. He`s only 21 so has plenty of time to work on whatever needs working on. Looking forward to see his progression over the coming years.

Horrible stoppage.

Looks as though he may follow the same sort of path as Haye did, matched tough early, might have to overcome a defeat here and there, learning all the time.
Nice array of punches and he can certainly whack. Defence might let him down along the way, too early to say whether he's not just fighting in a manner he feels fits the level of opponent though.
You've got to be thinking that if he and the olympians are set on some sort of collision course, that the headstart in experience he'll get from being a Hayemaker fighter can only stand him in good stead.
As of now, Degale seems to be the best of the bunch (despite losing to Groves as an am), with Sutherland a little overhyped in my book, but in 2 years time if Groves is the one who's been tested and hardened for the pros moreso than the others, he could well end up being the pick of the bunch.

How do you make DeGale the best of the bunch? I don`t think he showed that much in his debut fight. His jab was way off and more like a slap/flick. Not that much power either. I know it is difficult to judge them on one fight only, but I think the most impressive of the young fighters so far has been Jeffries.
They all look handy however, so should be a great couple of years watching them develop.

I'm not going purely from that first fight of Degale's, and as I said, 2 years down the line I may not be of the same opinion, but right now, Degale's got the most going for him imo.
He proved he could raise his game significantly when it counted, proved he could shake off an almighty shot (in his fight with Sutherland), has a rangey, awkward style that with a good dig, could see him go all the way.
I will say that he has the most to work out from the change over, but I think he has all of the tools. Sutherland and Groves could well prove me wrong, especially Groves, but until I see the kind of progression Degale makes, he's still at the top of the heap for me.
Could see Degale end up being one of those awkward, unpopular fighters who doesn't make for pretty fights, but manages to get scalps... or he might never fulfil his potential.

I am not 'down' on Degale but i dont see the professional in him, although he can be aggressive when he wants to.
He may have had the correct attributes in the amateurs, but I feel that the glimpse he showed us didn't do him any favours.
Sutherland seems to have the correct attitude, but I will go with Groves being the pick of the new blood.

Thanks for that, I'd only read about the fight up until now.
Both had their moments, very close fight.
Degale's a very sharp, hard hitting counter puncher. With come forward guys like Sutherland and Groves, if he proves to be a concussive puncher, a lot will ride on how well they take a punch without the headgear.
So far we know Groves has been stopped as an am, same goes for Sutherland, can the same be said for Degale, anyone know?

I think it was a brave move by Hayemaker putting him in with Samuels a real expierenced pro and he beat him easily a real good prospect

He looks good so far. Impressed with his power and punch variety. He looks like he's picked up his defensive habit from Froch. It works for Carl but he really needs to drop that as the fights go on.
All in all though i'm looking forward to watching these lads progress.

Would the ref of stopped Groves if he had shipped a few hard punches?
I know it looked likely that Groves would of stopped Samuels, but it did look a bit early, and Samuels knows his way around a ring.
Saying that though, i thought Groves looked good, for someone in his 3rd fight taking on an experienced and big punching opponent shows that Groves has alot of confidence.
Could you see Warren putting DeGale in with someone like that for his 3rd fight?

DeGale isn't someone who's great to watch at the moment, for me he looked a bit like an early Herol Graham, tapping out punches and not setting great power into them.
Graham took a while to work out that he could punch harder than he actually believed, will have to see if DeGale does.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Very good performance by Groves on Saturday night, he is a real prospect.

I'm sure some already know this, but Dickinson has beaten Groves twice, the first time in less than a round, dropped him with an overhand right and then finished him off with a left after he'd beaten the count. The second affair, he lost 16-21.
Dont shoot me if any of that's incorrect, just what I've read from online press. Would be interesting to see any footage of either bout.

Yes it's quite well known. Both wins for Dickinson were during the Junior ABA final (in 2006 and 2007)
