McCullough should be retired. Dude quit in his last fight and before was out for 3 years and shouldn't be allowed near any Euro to world class fighter.

Its not planned munroe has a fight planned in june for the commonwealth strap.

my main problem with fights like this is that mccullough is a huge name and no doubt long past his best. The same scenario as khan - barrera.
At their prime theres no question who would win this fight but now its a different scenario and no matter how you look at it if joe public were to see munroe beat wayne they would think munroe is far better than he is and wayne is worse than they thought. It happened with khan and barrera , if barrera was in his prime i think he would have won even with the physical disadvantages.
I think wayne would do himself a dis service if he came back , i hate ufc but id prefer him to keep working with them , but theres obviously unfinished business for wayne.

It would only be a good fight for promotional reasons.

If you staged it in Dublin and Munroe beat him, then you could move the spotlight onto a Dunne fight after Munroe "finished" an Irish legend in his own country. Munroe's profile is suddenly raised even more in Ireland and a Dunne/Munroe contest gets a bit more of an angle to it.

Comparing McCullough, who was last a world champion in 1996 and put in hospital by Scott Harrison in 2003, with Barrera, who was last a world champion in 2007 and went the distance with Marquez and Pacquiao that year, is ridiculous.

I did not compare barrera with mcculough.

I wouldn't be suprised if this went the full distance to be honest, McCullough is renowned for his rock solid chin and Munroe is not a big puncher. Munroe is no Scott Harrison.
In all honesty though, this would be a joke of a fight, McCullough should retire and Munroe should be facing much bigger challenges at this stage of his career.

If McCullough insists on fighting, he should at least get a handful of wins under his belt before expecting to be granted title shots (even Commonwealth) on current form. Get him some routine wins and if he looks OK, I don't mind him against Munroe. He would probably lose but probably wouldn't get hurt. If - and that's a big if - he beats Munroe, at least he'll have done something to earn a Dunne shot, rather than simply being Irish. At this moment in time, quite apart from the risk to Wayne, it would be preposterous if he was to get a WBA shot.

If you think putting an over the hill fighter who shipped far to many shots when he was in his prime in against a younger, fresher fighter is good for the sport you're sadly mistaken.

And I also fail to see there been much interest in a McCullough-Munroe fight considering they couldn't give away the tickets for McCullough-Martinez that only coming a few months after Martinez had smashed Dunne to bits inside a round.

Hes right in sayin it would be big , it would be the biggest ever.
As for being good for irish boxing , i think he means big in the sense that it would get a lot of people interested.
Considering that you get domestic fights every friday its quite abundant over there, they might not be as high profile as a dunne - mcculough fight but you still get them , dodson - quigley for example. Weve been starved of this sort of thing and the suggested bout is already dividing opinion between the young and slightly older generation because after all for the kids of today dunne will always bring back special memories as collins does for me.

Mc Cullough would be a better opponent than that African who he's fighting next for the commonwealth title

Wat about mccullough taking on either paul or patrick hyland and he wins that then give him a shot at munroe
