Not who you think was the best, but who was your personal favourite; who did you root for and/or enjoy watching the most? Did you like the ATG skills of Holyfield, Lewis, Holmes, Foreman, Tyson? The always-exciting wildcards in Morrison, Moorer, Ruddock? The Cinderella/Rocky stories of Bruno, Foreman? The unpredictability of Bowe, Tyson? Or someone else?

NB I haven't included Tua, Grant, Golota, Byrd, etc because while they were active and well ranked in the late 90s, their era (so to speak) was more 00s.

I picked Holyfield because I was a really big fan of his during the 90s.
But...that is a close match with Holmes and Tyson who I also found
at the time and these days to be entertaining.

Mercer, Witherspoon, Morrison and Foreman are other guys I also
liked from the era.
To be honest it was a pretty under rated and fun era as far as being
a fan goes.

My personal favorite from the 90's was Big George Foreman.

George Foreman was my favorite from the era, but ALOT of good fights happened in that time frame. Even the come back fights from older guys like Gerrie Coetzee and Michael Dokes were entertaining as hell, even if they were on the losing end. Tommy Morrison was my second favorite from the era, though it was apparent he was a notch below the top five: Holyfield, Lewis, Mercer, Tyson and Bowe.

Holyfield. The Bowe trilogy and the 2 fights with Tyson were all must see TV. The ultimate warrior.

What, no support for the beloved Michael Moorer?
Tim Tomasek who was already mentioned seemed like a cool guy. I will never forget him literally coming out of the crowd as a last minute replacement to fight Morrison.
How can you not like a guy who constantly says jeepers?

I was a Holyfield fan, though I don't like him as much as I used to.

You should replace Mercer with Foreman.

i think holyfield and tyson are my fave fighter full stop
when i was like 8 and that they were the guys there like childhood heros

i like archie moore, robinson and durna etc but because of them being childhood heros ill see holy in a different light im sure its lie that 4 other generations past and present

Both Tim and Marty Jakubowski were from Whiting Indiana.
Both real good people. Jack Callahan also. They worked out at a gym above city hall in Whiting. I worked out there for awhile and got to know these guys.
Real fun to be around.Tomasek really did say jeepers all the time.

Mercer was a notch below as well. I'm a little perplexed how Mercer with the passing of time has become remembered as being much better than he was. He looked awful vs Damiani before getting a late knockout, lost to a past-it Ferguson, couldn't beat Marion Wilson, and arguably deserved to lose vs a 40 year old Witherspoon (although I thought he won). He gave Holyfield a good fight and I do think he deserved the W vs Lewis, but beyond that`fight and exposing Morrison for being the stamina plagued, weak chinned fighter that he would be throughout the rest of the decade, I don't see Mercer being up there w/ Tyson,Holyfield, Bowe, and Lewis. If anyone joins as # 5 it's either Moorer or Foreman.

Late 80's and early 90's, I dont mind admitting, for me, it was Mike Tyson. I know he is pretty much hated in the USA but, for me, and probably alot of boxing fans around the World - he was simply breath-taking. Awesome natural ability and skills to rival anyone in the division in history (in his prime ofc)

Holyfield too, fantastic fighter.

It was indeed a very underrated era. We had a handful of ATGs operating in it and more importantly actually fighting each other, backed up by a host of colourful, exciting and unpredictable beltholders and contenders. Throw in several big rivalries, a host of huge upsets and more than a few controversies. Plenty of spectacular KOs and several wild brawls. For me, the 90s was the second-best heavyweight decade.

Yes, and his fights were always good to watch, whether for the quick KO (him belting out Ribalta is one of the best knockouts you could care to see) or the longer struggle, and when he finally won the title it was a true feelgood story.

In an era of fat boys and underachievers, I felt Bruno was a credit to the sport. I appreciate some people didn't like his 'act' but he was a breath of fresh air when compared to Tubbs, Page, etc...

Yeah, not a big Moorer fan here either. I STILL think that the Lewis-Ruddock Showdown is extremely tense and exciting. I don't think Ruddock did anything particularly wrong, just got nailed. This is paraphrasing as close as I can get, although I still have the KO Magazine, but Ruddock and Lewis had had a prior history. Lewis was quoted as saying something like Ruddock was living in the past. "I wanted him to feel the present..." something like that.

I was definitely a Riddick Bowe fan. He's hardly in a boring fight. Despite eating himself out of the division.

Riddick Bowe was my favorite heavyweight of the 90s...He just messed up big time for greatness.
