Haye-Klitschko 4am?

According to the Setanta website the fight will be on at 4am...Why? I know it would be for American TV but they both said it should be in Europe as they are European fighters so surely the TV should suit the Europeans?

If this is true, then they must be mental - how many people are going to want to attend a boxing match at four in the bloody morning.
I'll be so battered by that stage I won't be able to see a thing.
I'm going deffo - my local boozer is organising a bit of a jolly boys outing.

Thats what I thought but look at the time thing ticking down. Unless I am being really thick or unless it is an error with the countdown.

I can't see a late-night one here, if it's in Germany. German TV and boxing doesn't usually bend over for the Yanks.
I see no difference here.
10pm is perfect for me.

Not true.
RTL and Setanta will probably cough up more money than the Yanks. Especially as more than half the German TV audience will watch it - at prime time.
It should be on at about 10pm. Madness if not.

When does the US adjust back for DST, that might explain why it's 4 not 3?
Plus the more Americans see Haye fight the better imo.

They should arrange the fight in such a way to make it possible for American Telivision to have a live broadcast. Like formula one racing forces asian grand prix races to be pushed late in their local time in order to have a better air time in europe (because thats where most of the fans are) so should boxing in order to have a better air time in North America.
Reason I am saying this is twofold. I live in Canada so if this is at like 10 pm in europe I will be royally annoyed. And second when it comes to boxing the money is in the American market.

Exactly - correct me if I'm wrong, but Vitali is not exactly a huge draw. Since when do Yanks cough up to watch a Ukranian and a Brit fight for the heavyweight title?
Yanks are very partisan when it comes to sports, if one of their guys ain't involved, they generally ain't interested. Vitali is however huge in Germany and in fact most of central/eastern europe.

The money is in the German market, boxing is far more popular in Germany than in the US. Didn't 12 million people watch the V.Klit-Gomez fight? When was the last time 12 million people watched any fight in the US? Most of the fans are in Europe.

Maybe the last fight was big. I am having a hard time to find official stats regarding viewer ratings. But logic dictates that fight nights are bigger in the states. Very few sports make more money outside the USA (F1, football (soccer) are examples of those exceptions).

What "logic dictates" that? Care to explain? Ask Felix Sturm, Nicolay Valuev, or Arthur Abraham whether it is difficult to make money in Germany. Abraham makes more than 2 million euros per fight. Valuev got 1.5 million for the Holyfield fight. The Klitschkos make far more. Very few non American fighters make that in America. Guys like Marquez, Vasquez or Tomas Adamek don't make that kind of money. Even Americans like Mosley, Dawson and Hopkins don't make more than the fighters in Germany. The only ones that do are guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao, and DLH.

Not a chance in hell this will start at 5am German time. Many big fights happen in Germany and they all start around 10pm'ish.

Why don't they have the fight in MSG or somewhere on the east coast of America because prime East coast time is about 2 or 3 in the morning. and isn'

The boxing world does not revolve around the states, at least not nearly as much as it used to. Germany and the UK and even parts of Asia have had big fights without 4am start times many times over the last few years. Just because Hatton bends over backwards for Vegas money, doesn't mean there aren't other avenues of money making.

well in a way its good that the Yanks want to watch this fight live and in primetime... they didn't for "their own" to challenge the Klitchskos..... Rahman, Thompson etc - weren't interested in those.

Who cares if someone in Canada is 'royally annoyed' when a Ukrainian fights a Brit in Germany? And the Yanks don't give a monkeys about this match.

You could at least have named me. I mean you know that someone is me. That's low-brow.

No but they should have. All I am saying is that I like to see live fights at less painful hours. Formula one is already killing me with 5 am races due to their reluctance to make them night races.
I am actually quite a nice person. I like for all people to be happy.

Err no it doesn't. What makes US fights big is PPV figures, the crowds in attendance are pretty paltry compared with what this fight could do in Germany - I've no doubt they can 25-30,000 for this one in Germany - plus 15-20 million viewers. It won't be PPV in germany - but the ad revenue will be humungous - when you can guarantee 15 million viewers, advertising comes at a premium.
Add in maybe 100,000 (maybe optomistic) PPV buys in uk, and add in the Ukranian and Russian viewing figures and other eastern european states, and no way is this bigger in the US.
Nobody in Vegas gives a right bollock about this fight - it's just not on their radar. Plus, maximum capacity in Vegas is I think 15,000.

lol your comparing the sales for entire europe to usa. I was just talking about germany compared to america period. I do understand the german market is big. BUT if the brothers become loved in America (like Wlad was staring to be when he fought Brock) I think there is more potential to make even more "sales" for their fights. American are consumers at an expert level, if they like they purchase it. The european boxer that manages to stimulate americans will be a prosperous man.
