Rendall Munroe and Frank Maloney??

I started off liking Munroe, he seemed like a nice, humble lad and although not a world beater or anywhere near it, is a decent enough boxer.
Recently however he is getting way too big for his boots, in his last fight with Martinez he was being all cocky, laughing at Martinez trying to act like a big shot (the commentators even remarked on this saying how they hoped he was not getting a bad attitude).
Then there is the whole Bernard Dunne "rivalry", which he and Maloney are trying to milk for all it's worth when in reality there is no such rivalry at all, just the fact that Munroe defeated someone who beat Dunne, which does not a rivalry make.
Maloney and Munroe have more or less accused Dunne of "running scared" when they were the ones refusing Dunne a title shot a few months ago.
Munroe is very dismissive of Dunne in interviews and reckons he was not too impressed by what he saw at the 02.
Now my qusetion is, is this a case of Maloney making stuff up for publicity, for instance the "I could beat both of them" comment, which Munroe apparently said while watching Dunne V Cordoba, or is Munroe actually a cocky, deluded idiot. One or both of them is, I'm just wondering which is it?
Also, how can Maloney put out a press release accusing Dunne of running from Munroe when Munroe's next "challenge" is Issac Nettey (3-2-1), and Dunne is looking for a fight with Israel Vasquez next?
I am not the only one who has been put off Munroe by this kind of crap, why is Maloney intent on setting his man up to be ridiculed with this sort of behaviour. I don't get it!

Didn't Dunne get offered the winner of the first Munroe-Martinez fight, but turned it down, then got interested again when Munroe won and Dunne realised he didn't have to fight Martinez again? I'm sure I read it in BN where Dunne had declined to fight the winner of that fight but I could be wrong.
As for the rest, it's obviously for publicity. Munroe missed the boat with Cordoba, Dunne took the risk and is reaping the reward, a bit like what Munroe did with Martinez. But if Dunne can get bigger fights now he has a title then Munroe has got to try and get Dunne in there another way, so he's trying to goad him into it. I don't think it's personal and the only way to know for sure who's deluded is to lace up the gloves and fight.

I never heard that before and I follow Dunne's career pretty closely, I have looked on BBN archives but so far there was no mention of that.

Shit I just threw a load of old copies of BN in the bin, it was on the news snippets that Dunne had turned down the chance to fight winner of Munroe-Martinez. I'll have a look if they not buried too far in the bin

Well the horrible prick has offer Team Dunne £200,000 to fight Munroe, I bet Dunne has never see that amount of money. For the record Dunne was offer a fight with Munroe but did not want to come to the UK And at the time Munroe was champ and Dunne had nothing so Team Munroe could call the shots, Dunne now has a world title Munroe knows to make the fight he might have to go to Ireland and is quite willing to do that and his horrible (lets not forget the little) prick is willing to pY HIM £200,000 and in IRELAND.

He can make multiples of that fighting Vasquez or Caballero. I suspect he already made that fighting Cordoba. Fvck off, you've missed the boat. Can I remind you of something YOU said?

Rendall and myself will be at ringside to watch before i make up my mind on his next move with the rest of his team.
Now you are just bitter.

Standing in his way is the modestly talented Ghanaian, Isaac Nettey, who has won just three of his six professional bouts to date.
That's the best fight you can make? No wonder you are so desperate for a shot at Dunne.

We never forget what we say,and i can assure you that he got no wear near that for fighting Cordoba.I can all so let you know no one is bitter . Dunne team took the gamble and it paid of good luck and well done to them, lets hope they handle him right from now on as Dunne is good for Irish Boxing so lets hope he keeps the title and his people do the right thing with him.

Please can you tell me how this can be done, I would love to know how you know what someone will be earning,Were will the multiples of cash be comming from, You do know there a credit crunch in this world and boxing tv companys are not excluded. The question Team Dunne must answer do they go for the biggest payday and lose the tilte in their first fight or take a few safe defences to establish his credentials as a champ and make some money before he loses the title.

Actually, I think Dunne only got something like 70k for the Cordoba fight. Obviously with sponsorship and everything he probably came out closer to 100k but 200k is a lot of money for the weight, especially when you are being offered home advantage. If I were Dunne I'd snap his hand off. Very winnable fight with home advantage and good money.
I criticise Maloney as much as anyone here for his handling of Munroe thus far but I think he has come up with the goods this time and it is the kind of offer needed to make this fight happen. I know Dunne wants to go to Vegas later in the year, but it is looking lucrative to sort out something closer to home now.

Ha ha that is absolutely hilarious!!!
Look, Dunne is set for life over here now. We are a sports mad nation with very little success internationally (4 million population against 60 million in UK gives an idea of where we are starting from) - someone like Dunne will be a God
A runner called Ronnie Delaney won gold in the 1956 Olympics and is still a household name here and pops up on TV chat shows etc all the time. You get the idea?
Dunne will be a millionaire from deals made off the back of the last fight.
Rendall and Frank can kiss his arse for all he cares.
By the way Frank, any word on Sutherland?

Dunne could keep fighting in Ireland and become a very very rich man, I understand what you mean by sports people being remembered its because so few have done anything of note.
Its a vast difference in britain , munroe is a small fish in big bowl

As i big boxing fan. i've never thought of Maloney as a 'prick'.
yes he maybe gets ot wrong sometimes, but he's a boxing promoter , so that happens with them all.
as for Monroe and Dunne, yes they should fight, and of course each of the boxers is going to want the best deal. As it stands Dunne has the trump card.

I agree with you Ian, Maloney never came across as a 'prick' in my opinion.
Sure, he got it badly wrong in his prediction on here but we've all done that before. He also had the balls to come back on and eat a bit of humble pie.
He's a boxing promoter. He's expected to say things to get his fighters noticed.
And the fact that he has offered good money to Dunne must help Bernard's bargaining position elsewhere.
I bet Dunne doesn't see him as a 'prick' either, if he's as good a business man as he is a boxer.

I spoke to Rendall a couple of weeks ago and I can assure you that he is NOT getting too big for his boots.
We had a long chat while he was picking his son up from football and not many fighters would do that. Rendall is the same down to earth guy he has always been.

To be fair he was out of line when he mentioned it was going to be Dunne's last fight and that he was going to take a hammering in back to back sentences, it made it seem as if he was expecting Dunne to get seriously hurt.
Anyway you have to be a prick to be a successful promoters, nice guys just won't crack it.
Frank I wasn't expecting too tough an opponent for the Commonwealth title fight, Oliver Lontchi or Steve Molitor(fighting an IBF eliminator anyway) is not what people were expecting. But why the need to go as low down as Nettey ?
You might say his record is deceiving or incomplete and it probably is, but the 2 guys he's loss to and the guy he has drawn to have come to Britain and fought lesser fighters than Munroe at a lower weight than Munroe(losses to J.Booth, M.Edmonds and D.Broadhurst) and lost either very very widely on points or have been stopped. So this guy clearly isn't even going to be close to being competitive unless Munroe is awful on the night.
Would it not have been possible to get someone like Esham Pickering, Anyetei Laryea, Rocky Dean or Sande Otieno. Good respectable fighters who Munroe would have to be able to beat if he's going anywhere anyway. They'd probably want more money(well, definitely) but at least you wouldn't be in a situation where Munroe is criticised no matter what. If he struggles, he's struggled against a nobody. If he wins spectacularly, he's beaten a man with a record of 3-2-1 in known fights and at a very poor level of competition. It's probably Munroe's easiest fight on paper since he fought Darren Broomhall 4 years ago in his 8th fight.
How is this meant to prepare him for a World title fight ?

agree OBI> last Maloney card I saw, after every fight he went to the 'away' fighter and had a word, looked like he was thanking them for putting on a good show, especially Max Maxwell who gave the local lad a cracking little workout. i thought it a nice touch on FTM's part and he never struck me as a *****either
