Bout Summary

2006-11-11 - Wladimir Klitschko vs. Calvin Brock (poster).jpg
  • Klitschko had difficulties with Brock at first in the fight, because of Brock's awkwardness and Klitschko's inability to reach him. After four rounds Harold Lederman had it even at 38-38. However, starting in the fifth round, Klitschko became more active and his jab became a factor and Brock became more flat-footed, leaving him easier to hit. Klitschko suffered a cut over the left eye from an unintentional headbutt in the sixth round. Brock was knocked down in the seventh round, and although he barely beat the count, Referee Kelly concluded he was in no condition to continue.

Notes

Post-Fight Quotes

  • "When I landed the combination, I thought he was done. I should have done that earlier in the fight. It took me a little time to get the distance I needed and to get my rhythm. He was a good defensive fighter. Anytime you defeat an undefeated fighter, you've accomplished something." - said Wladimir Klitschko.
  • "I saw the punch coming but I couldn't react fast enough to get out of the way. I wasn't surprised by how hard he punched. He had a better jab than I thought he would. He's very strong. He's got a good defense and good jab. I thought I could get behind my jab better and my right hand. I wasn't able to. He's got good movement and he's very good. I'll be back. I will still be champion." - said Calvin Brock.
  • "Wladimir fought a good fight. Calvin didn't move his head as much as he did in camp and he didn't move as much laterally as he did in camp." - said Tom Yankello, Brock's trainer.
