David Benavidez 168 lbs beat Denis Douglin 169 lbs by TKO at 0:35 in round 10 of 10

Benavidez versus Douglin Super Middleweight ESPN Main Event Bout

In the main event of a seven bout ESPN card at 2300 Arena with TV ringside commentary by Teddy Atlas, 19 year old super middleweight prospect David Benavidez, brother of welterweight contender Jose Benavidez, rose to 16-0, with 15 knockouts, with a tenth round stoppage of game but outmatched Denis Douglin. At the start, Douglin did well in the first three rounds, trying to get inside and overcome the height and reach advantage of Benevidez, scoring on the inside well. From round four on, Benavidez pitched a shutout, outboxing from the outside. The change in game plan did not work, as Benavidez slowly and patiently broke Douglin down with power shot combinations. A series of single perfectly placed uppercuts dropped Douglin on the ropes at the end of round nine, who beat the count, but his legs were gone, saved by the bell. A powerful right hook to the head finished Douglin on the ropes shortly after the start of round 10, prompting the stoppage by referee Gary Rosato to end the contest.
