Claudio Marrero 127 lbs beat Luis Hinojosa 128 lbs by TKO at 2:55 in round 4 of 10

  • In the televised (on tape delay) walkout bout on the seven bout Premier Boxing Champions Errol Spence Jr. versus Leonard Bundu card on the NBC Sports Network, Marrero decked game and brave late substitute Luis Hinojosa in the first round, and again twice in the third round. Hinojosa, fighting back while taking taking great punishment, took a knee in the fourth round, and got knocked down again in a corner near the end of the round, beaten badly and unable to get up. Referee Danny Schiavone waved the contest off at that point with Hinojosa having nothing more to prove. Marrero was originally scheduled to fight Derrick Murray (13-0-1, 5 KOs).
  • Despite coming in at the last minute, Luis Hinojosa appeared in top condition, as did Claudio Marrero. Hinojosa swung wildly at Marrero from the opening bell, and tried very hard to win. Marrero outclassed Hinojosa, coming forward cutting off the ring, boxing cautiously against the unexpected opponent, counterpunching patiently, scoring with big power shot counter openings to win.
