'''Tommy Sullivan''' was ambushed and shot to death on December 22, 1957 as he walked past a cemetery on his way to work. Sullivan was killed after he left his home en route to work where he worked as a longshoreman. Witnesses said there were five-to-six shots fired from a slow-moving vehicle in which three or four persons were riding. No motive was determined for the slaying, but detectives said the ex-fighter might have been involved in a longshoreman's dispute. Source: NY Times (UP) Wireservice.

Brooklyn Tommy Sullivan wa born on FEB. 27, 1881. So the age of 35 isn't right. If he died in Dec. of 1957, he was 86 at the time of death. His sister, my great grandmother, died at the age of 89 in 1968. So they appear to be long-lived, at least these 2 were. I'm assuming he outlived his wife, and I know that he moved to St. Louis at some point after his boxing career. There were 7 other siblings and I'm in the process of nailing that down also. I have his sister's baptismal certificate. Did he die in St. Louis? I'll assume so until I find more details. It does sort of sound like "Bklyn" though - a longshoreman being shot.
Are we sure that this wasn't his son, Tommy? Bklyn Tommy's career spanned from 1897 - 1913.
I'll check back or I can be e-mailed with any new info. Thank You.
