Career Overview
Arturo Gatti was one of the most exciting boxers in history. He won world titles in two weight divisions and was involved in The Ring Fight of the Year four times.

Gatti was born in Italy on April 15, 1972. While still a young boy, the Gatii family emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Living in the Little Italy section of Montreal, Gatti developed a passion for soccer and hockey but eventually followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Joe Gatti, and became a boxer.

After representing Canada at the 1991 World Junior Championships in Peru, Gatti turned professional at age 19. Three years later, he stopped Pete Taliaferro in one round to win the USBA Junior Lightweight Title. Gatti won his first world title in 1995, outpointing Tracy Harris Patterson to win the IBF Junior Lightweight Championship. In his first defense, Gatti had to get off the floor to stop Wilson Rodriguez in six exciting rounds. After outpointing Patterson in a rematch, Gatti stopped Gabriel Ruelas in four thrilling rounds. The Ring named it Fight of the Year for 1997.

After three successful title defenses, Gatti vacated the title and moved up to lightweight in 1998. He was stopped on a cut against Angel Manfredy and then lost two brutal fights to Ivan Robinson by decision. The first Robinson fight was named 1998 Fight of the Year by The Ring. Some people called for his retirement after losing three grueling fights in a row, but Gatti continued to fight. He moved up to junior welterweight and won four straight fights before being dominated and stopped by Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight.

Gatti engaged in a great trilogy with Micky Ward in 2002 and 2003. Ward won the first fight, and Gatti won the next two. The Ring named the first fight the 2002 Fight of the Year, and the third fight got the honor for 2003.

Gatti outpointed Gianluca Branco in 2004 to win the vacant WBC Super Lightweight Championship, becoming a two-time champion, something many felt he would never be able to accomplish. In his first title defense, Gatti knocked out undefeated former lightweight champion Leonard Dorin with a left hook to the body. He followed the Dorin fight with a knockout of former junior lightweight champion Jesse James Leija.

Gatti made his third defense against the highly-regarded Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2005. Gatti was no match for Mayweather, who completely dominated the fight until Gatti's corner stopped it after the sixth round.

After stopping undefeated Thomas Damgaard to win the lightly regarded IBA Welterweight Championship in 2006, Gatti challenged Carlos Manuel Baldomir for the WBC Welterweight Championship and was stopped in nine rounds.

Gatti retired in 2007 after being knocked out by Alfonso Gomez.

Gatti was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013.

Championship Record
*Has a record of 7-2 (4 KO) in World Title fights.
*Has a record of 9-3 (6 KO) against former or current world titlists.
*Micky Ward: "He gave it all in the ring. He gave everything to the sport of boxing. He gave the fans what they wanted."

Death
Gatti was found dead with blood stains on his neck and the back of his head at about 6:00 a.m. on July 11, 2009. He was on his second honeymoon with his Brazilian wife, Amanda Rodgrigues, in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil. The following day, it was announced that Amanda Rodgrigues had been charged with murder and arrested by authorities. Early reports alleged that Gatti was struck multiple times in the back of the head and then apparently strangled with a purse strap while unconscious. On July 30, 2009, authorities in Brazil ruled Gatti's death a suicide and ordered the release of Rodrigues. During a 2011 civil trial in Gatti's native Montreal, the Quebec coroner ruled that there was no evidence of foul play in the ex-boxer's death, and a Quebec judge awarded Rodrigues the entire Gatti estate. She still faced a wrongful-death suit filed in New Jersey against her by Gatti's ex-wife, Erika Rivera, but that was dismissed in 2012 by a New Jersey judge.

Biography
Edison Miranda has been a fighter his entire life. At just one-month-old, his mother gave him to a family friend to be raised. Edison was both physically and mentally abused by this person. At nine-years-old, he decided to search for his mother all by himself. He traveled all across Colombia and finally found her; however, she rejected him again. He was now all alone on the tough streets of Colombia at the young age of nine. He spent the rest of his childhood working hard in the plantain and yucca fields of Tumaco and sweeping up for street vendors in the neighboring town of Buenaventura. He ate whatever he could find on the streets in order to survive. By the time Edison was 12, he was already working a grown-man's job in construction. Just two years later, he worked as a cattle butcher in Barranquilla, where he would soon begin pursuing his dream of becoming a champion boxer.

With only five months of training and barely 16-years-old, Edison fought his first amateur boxing match on April 17, 1997. The strength and passion that had seen him through the past 15 years became his greatest weapons in the ring, helping him to a first-round knockout against his first-ever opponent. After only four more amateur fights, Edison found himself in the ring with the best fighters in the country, only to succeed with first-round knockouts again and again. He quickly rose to be the National Champion from 1998 to 1999 and was the Champion of the National Games in 2000.

One hundred and fifty-two fights later, Edison became a professional boxer, but his journey was only halfway over. March 2002 saw the promising young boxer's arrival in the Dominican Republic. Having been promised a shot at going to the United States to fight the top middleweight fighters in the world, Edison continued with what he's best at--fighting--both in and out of the ring. Struggling to make ends meet, left homeless and hungry by an unfair contract, Edison left the Dominican Republic and returned to Baranquilla, Colombia on December 24, 2004. With the support of friends, he fulfilled his dream of making it as a boxer in the United States, when he signed with Seminole Warriors Boxing, and then had his first American fight in Hollywood, Florida, on May 20, 2005. "I am God's warrior," Edison said. "I've always put my trust in Him, and he's always protected me. God is the reason I'm here today... and he's the reason I fight. Because I know it's His plan that I be a champion."

Edison's keys to success are discipline, faith and hard work. His training regimen includes only jogging, the stationary bike, jump rope, punching the bag and sparring. He doesn't lift weights, doesn't drink alcohol, and always goes to bed early. When asked about his greatest goal as a boxer he replies, "I want to be the kind of champion that helps others... to help children that were like me, homeless, with nowhere else to go. True champions are role models and that's what I strive to be".

Professional Career
On February 12, 2000 With a 21-0-0 record Judah defeated Jan Piet Bergman by 4th round KO for the vacate IBF light-welterweight title which Terron Millett had been stripped. On June 24, 2000 Judah's next title defence was british fighter Junior Witter with a record 15-0-2, Judah won an unanimous decision with scores of 116-112 and 118-111 twice. Judah had successfuly defended his IBF light-welterweight title over Hector Quiroz, Terron Millett, Reggie Green, and Allan Vester. On Nov 3, 2001, Judah had his first unifycation bout with the WBC, WBA light-welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu, Judah had won the first round by using his speed to hit Tszyu with uppercuts that hurt Tyzyu, second round Tszyu was doing well and landed a right hand near the end of the round, Judah was dazed and tried to get up but he went back down, Referee Jay Nady stop the bout. On July 12, 2003, Judah fought Corley for Corley's WBO light-welterweight title, Judah won via split decision scores were 115-112, 115-113 Judah and 115-113 for Corley. On April 10, 2004, Judah move up in weight to face undisputed welterweight champion Cory Spinks, Both men were knock down and Judah lost a close unanimous decision, scores were 114-112 twice and 116-111 for Spinks.

On February 05, 2005, Judah became the undisputed welterweight champion with his rematch with Cory Spinks, Judah connected with several of his big left hooks and KO Spinks in the ninth round in Spinks's hometown of St.Louis, Missouri. He would lose those titles, in his own hometown, on January 7, 2006, when he suffered a unanimous decision upset loss to WBC mandatory challenger, Carlos Manuel Baldomir. Baldomir only won the WBC title, as he only paid the sanctioning fee for that organization's title. It was widely believed that Judah's WBA and IBF titles were automatically vacated as a result of the loss, as has been the custom in similar situations, like Lloyd Honeyghan's loss to Jorge Vaca. However, on January 19, IBF championship chairman Lindsey Tucker told FightNews that Judah was still the organization's champion, as they like the WBA did not recognize the bout as a title match, however they did not choose to vacate the title as the WBA had done.

The loss also would have appeared to have cost Judah the opportunity to face widely recognized pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a big pay-per-view showdown later in the spring of 2006. However, on January 20th, Bob Arum and Don King announced that the two would meet on April 8, 2006 in a HBO Pay-Per-View show, with Judah's IBF welterweight title on the line. Though Judah would start well in his match with Mayweather, Mayweather would take control of the fight in the 2nd half to win a comfortable unanimous decision with scores of 119-109, 116-112, 117-111. The bout was highlighted by a controversial 10th round incident, in which Judah landed a low blow on Mayweather, followed by a rabbit punch. This prompted Mayweather's trainer Roger Mayweather to enter the ring to go after Judah. Controversy over Roger Mayweather's actions prompted the IBF on April 18th, to order an immediate rematch betweeen Mayweather and Judah by August 8th. Mayweather, however, decided to abandon his title. On April 13, 2007, Judah had a tune up fight against Ruben Galvan. Judah hammered his opponent with a flurry of punches in the first minute the round while Galvan end up with a deep cut,the reply showed that it was an accidental elbow that made the cut and the fight was declared a no contest. On June 9, 2007, Judah face WBA welterweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto 30-0-0 record, the fight was action packed with Judah rocking Cotto in the first round with uppercuts, however in the 11th round Cotto knock down Judah,Judah got up,but was meet by a barrage of punches by Cotto which prompted the referee to stop the fight.all three judges had Cotto winning the fight 97-91.
